NXT Tag Team Champions Blake & Murphy vs. The Vaudevillains
Aiden English & Simon Gotch surprised the NXT Universe when they defeated Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady to become No. 1 Contenders to the titles several weeks ago, and were on a roll heading into their championship showdown with Blake & Murphy.
When the two teams clashed for the NXT Tag Team Championship on July 29, it was The Vaudevillains who looked to be on the verge of victory, and set Murphy up for the Whirling Dervish. However, the champions’ feisty manager, Alexa Bliss, tripped English as he charged into the ropes, causing a distraction that allowed her tandem to escape with the titles.
After the bout, The Vaudevillains got a measure of payback, hitting Blake with the Whirling Dervish and tossing Murphy from the ring. Left alone in the ring with Bliss, English & Gotch were in the perfect position to get revenge for having their dreams dashed. However, the gentlemanly duo refused to put their hands on a woman, and instead opted to hold the ropes open and allow Bliss to leave the ring. Their chivalry earned them each a slap in the face from the fierce Diva, who called The Vaudevillains pathetic before leaving with the champions.
NXT General Manager William Regal granted the old school duo a championship rematch at the Barclays Center on Aug. 22, but suggested that English & Gotch find a way to counteract Alexa Bliss this time around.
Can The Vaudevillains neutralize the ever-present threat of Alexa Bliss, or will Blake & Murphy manage to walk out of Brooklyn with the NXT Tag Team Championship? Find out at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, live on WWE Network Saturday, Aug. 22 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT!
