Booby Roode claims Drew McIntyre is “trying to prove himself against the wrong guy”
NXT Champion Bobby Roode is only days away from facing Drew McIntyre at TakeOver: Brooklyn III, but The Glorious One isn’t showing any sign of intimidation heading into his title defense against the undefeated Scotsman.
In a Facebook Live interview with Kayla Braxton this past weekend, Roode said that although McIntyre is trying to rebuild his legacy in WWE, he will not do so at Roode’s expense.
“He’s expressed how, [during] his time here before in this company, he felt entitled to a lot of things,” Roode said. “He was young and made a lot of mistakes, and now it’s his time to right that wrong and to live up the expectations that Vince McMahon himself said: [That] he was going to be a World Champion one day and that he was going to be The Chosen One. So, this is his opportunity to prove himself, but he's trying to prove himself against the wrong guy.”
Though Roode insisted he is focused only his upcoming title defense, he might have another Superstar to contend with soon if Roderick Strong defeats Drew McIntyre on this week’s NXT. Per a pre-match stipulation agreed to by Roode, if Strong defeats McIntyre this Wednesday, he will get an opportunity to face Roode sometime in the future.
The Messiah of the Backbreaker has been hot on Roode’s heels ever since The Glorious One narrowly defeated him in title action and then blew a kiss to Strong’s family at ringside. Roode has continued to take potshots at Strong and his family following their match.
“I think he disappointed not only himself, but he disappointed his entire family, and I think that's where the obsession comes from,” Roode said of Strong. “Roddy has to learn how to control his emotions a little bit. I’ve obviously moved on from Roddy.”
