Goldberg def. Kevin Owens to win the Universal Championship
MILWAUKEE — We knew Goldberg had at least one more Spear left in him. We knew he had one more Jackhammer left in him. And now we know he has one more title reign left in him too.
The unlikely comeback of the iconic Superstar reached its new apex at WWE Fastlane, where Goldberg defeated Kevin Owens to become the new Universal Champion in his first WWE title match in 14 years. The win all but ensures Goldberg will walk into WrestleMania with a championship around his waist for the first time in his illustrious career.
Owens, for his part, seemed hesitant to get in the ring at all. He ducked out of the ropes before the bell rang and refused to step back in for minutes on end while Goldberg fumed in the middle of the ring. And when Owens finally did step to Goldberg and demanded the match begin, Chris Jericho’s entrance music hit and things went south in a hurry.
Owens was completely thrown off his game by the arrival of his former best friend, appearing on television for the first time since Owens’ heinous betrayal a few weeks ago. KO even went so far as to ask the ref to hold on the bell. But he didn’t, and Goldberg didn’t hesitate one second before executing the legendary trio: Spear, Jackhammer, 1-2-3.
Now, Kevin Owens’ dream run has been cut short at the hands of the Superstar who once called him his best friend. Goldberg is Universal Champion. Brock Lesnar is next, and the stakes are higher than ever. Here we go.
