Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax & Natalya crash Asuka’s interview on “The KO Show”
Asuka tried to share a few words during an interview by Kevin Owens, but the Raw Women’s Champion was quickly interrupted by the three women who would square off later in the evening to determine her challenger at WWE Backlash: NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, Natalya and Nia Jax. Owens quickly saw where this was going and left the ring as all four women traded blows, with The Empress of Tomorrow standing tall.
Apollo Crews def. Andrade to become United States Champion
The prospect of winning his first championship in WWE had Apollo Crews fired up, but the match turned when Andrade accidentally collided with Zelina Vega at ringside. Despite Andrade targeting his previously injured knee, Crews persevered and put Andrade down for the three-count with a standing moonsault/shooting star press combination to win the title.
The IIconics attacked Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross
Despite last week’s slap in the face, Billie Kay & Peyton Royce were back on the same page on Raw. The IIconics vowed to take back what they feel is theirs: the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. And they showed just how far they’re willing to go to reclaim them, unleashing a ruthless attack on Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross.
Drew McIntyre dropped MVP with a Claymore on “The VIP Lounge”
Despite MVP’s insistence to the contrary, WWE Champion Drew McIntyre knew he was walking into a trap. But just as Lashley made his way to the ring to confront McIntyre, the WWE Champion dropped MVP with a Claymore on the spot, then dared The All Mighty to get in the ring and fight, a request which Lashley denied.
Angel Garza def. Kevin Owens
Angel Garza got the upper hand on Kevin Owens before the bell, taking out KO’s knee from behind on the entrance ramp. Despite Owens’ best efforts, Garza pounced on the injury and put away the former Universal Champion with the Wing Clipper, then put an exclamation point on the win by once again kicking Owens in the knee.
The Street Profits def. The Viking Raiders in Golf
The latest edition of “Anything You Can Do, We Can Do Better” saw this friendly rivalry hit the course for the gentleman’s game. Despite both teams’ best efforts on the links, it turned out to be a good walk spoiled for everyone else on the course. After leaving the course littered with divots and turkey legs, The Street Profits and The Viking Raiders went to a nearby miniature golf course, where Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins bested The Viking Raiders to take a 2-1 lead in this series.
Murphy & Austin Theory def. Aleister Black & Humberto Carrillo
Despite being new to the fold, Austin Theory proved himself to be an impressive addition to Seth Rollins’ crew. Theory picked up the win for his team after hitting Humberto Carrillo with the ATL. After the bell, Theory & Murphy continued to attack both of their opponents, then threatened Carrillo with the same fate as Rey Mysterio until they convinced Aleister Black to stop trying to fight back.
Nia Jax def. Natalya and Charlotte Flair to earn a Raw Women’s Title Match at WWE Backlash
This Triple Threat Match turned chaotic quickly, as The Queen and Natalya teamed up to take out Jax, eventually driving her through the announcers’ table at ringside. However, Nia proved that she truly is an irresistible force, crushing Flair with a leg drop, then planting Natalya into the mat with a Samoan Drop to win the match and earn the right to face Asuka at WWE Backlash.
The Street Profits def. Bobby Lashley & MVP by disqualification
The Street Profits were out to show that they’re no clowns after MVP slighted them prior to this match. Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins were doing exactly that until Bobby Lashley lost control. Just after Ford connected with his Frog Splash on MVP, Lashley rushed the ring and locked on the Full Nelson, causing a disqualification.
Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley had to be restrained by WWE Performance Center athletes
When Lashley refused to let go of the Full Nelson, McIntyre came to the ring looking for a fight, and he got his wish. The two rivals brawled around ringside and could not be stopped. It took the full force of nearly every WWE Performance Center trainee in attendance to keep these two fearsome Superstars apart, which won’t be the case when they lock horns for the WWE Championship at WWE Backlash.
