After accomplishing his dream of capturing the WWE Cruiserweight Championship on The Grandest Stage of Them All, Cedric Alexander will face his first major challenger in former titleholder Kalisto at the Greatest Royal Rumble event.
At WrestleMania, Alexander’s arduous journey through the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament came to an epic conclusion as he defeated his friend Mustafa Ali in a fast-paced contest to claim the illustrious title and set the tone for The Show of Shows. Despite the defeat, Ali showed tremendous respect for his friend and reminded the new champion that he and the other Cruiserweights are coming for the title. NXT Superstar Buddy Murphy, fresh off an impressive showing in the groundbreaking tournament, had no intention to wait in line, and he ruthlessly attacked the new champion during the first 205 Live after WrestleMania.
Although WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick initially planned to have Alexander defend the title against Murphy at the Greatest Royal Rumble event, the Australian Superstar failed to maintain his qualifying weight for the Cruiserweight division and lost his opportunity. Nevertheless, Maverick set a new plan in motion by announcing a Gauntlet Match to determine Alexander’s challenger.
Kalisto entered the Gauntlet Match after Drew Gulak eliminated Mustafa Ali and Tony Nese. From there, the lucha sensation delivered the fast-paced and high-risk moves that define his in-ring ability. With his fellow Lucha House Party members Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik watching from the locker room, Kalisto delivered a stunning performance to best Gulak and earn the opportunity to face Alexander in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Will Cedric Alexander vanquish his first challenger, or will Kalisto reclaim the Cruiserweight Championship to kickstart the ultimate Lucha House Party?
