WWE Cruiserweight Champion The Brian Kendrick def. Kalisto
TORONTO — Given that Kalisto put Baron Corbin on the injured list to keep him out of Survivor Series, it shouldn’t have surprised Kalisto that the vindictive Lone Wolf interfered in The King of Flight’s WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match at Survivor Series. It’s unlikely anybody expected what happened when he did, though.
Current — and still — Cruiserweight Champion The Brian Kendrick should thank his lucky stars that Corbin did interfere in the match, because Kalisto was well on his way to both taking Kendrick’s title and the entire Cruiserweight division to SmackDown LIVE. Customary Cruiserweight handshake aside, The Wizard of Odd didn’t show Kalisto the slightest bit of respect as a contender (Kendrick consigned him to the “cheap thrills” pile before the match). And by the time Kendrick realized he was facing a genuine threat, the damage had almost already been done.
Proving he was every bit as tough as Kendrick was cunning, Kalisto rebounded from a hellacious Captain’s Hook off the second rope to land a Salida del Sol that Kendrick managed to survive via rope break. When Kalisto ascended the ropes to finish the job, Corbin struck, only he laid out Kendrick to disqualify Kalisto, ensuring The King of Flight wouldn’t even win the match on a technicality. He then planted his rival with the End of Days for good measure.
205 Live may land Kalisto the WWE Cruiserweight Title yet if he chooses to pursue that route — or if Corbin doesn’t put him out of action first. But as far as the Cruiserweight division goes, they still fight on Monday nights.
