Veteran NFL writer and Pat McAfee Show contributor Mark Kaboly lists his Top 5 Insane Moments through the first eight months of 2025.
THE SETUP
At Triplemanía XXXIII, the confrontation between Omos and Microman, the latter of whom is a competitor four feet shorter than the gigantic Superstar, made for a memorable moment that won’t soon be forgotten. It also made me think about the previous eight months and all the insane moments that have occurred. With that idea in mind, here’s a list of my wildest moments.
5. BRON BREAKKER'S SPEED SPEAR: You can’t talk about an insane moment this year without bringing up what Bron Breakker did to Royal Rumble guest participant IShowSpeed. With Speed in Indianapolis streaming for his channel, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time… twice. Encouraged by Triple H to enter the Rumble after Akira Tozawa was taken out by an angry Carmelo Hayes on the stage, Speed was quickly Speared by Breakker then thrown like a football out of the ring and into Otis’ hands.
4. BROCK LESNAR RETURNS: Nobody even remotely thought that The Beast was going to show up at SummerSlam, especially after John Cena passed the torch to Cody Rhodes, but there he was in stunning fashion. If you say that you predicted it, you are a liar. Lesnar didn’t say a word, circled Cena like an animal going after his prey, hit a F-5 and hasn’t been seen since. Would you expect anything else from Lesnar? He hasn’t been seen in more than two years, and he returned to renew a rivalry with Cena that dates back 23 years.
3. ROLLINS' GREAT RUSE: Was it a real injury all along? Or a complete lie? Maybe it was one turned into the other? Or maybe Seth Rollins should win an Oscar for his 21-day performance between Saturday Night’s Main Event “knee injury” and when he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract against CM Punk at SummerSlam. Punk spent those three weeks selling his injury to the point that when he perfectly timed the drop of his crutches as "burn it down" blared during his entrance music made for great theater. We’ve seen Money in the Bank contracts cashed in many times, but just not to this extreme.
2. PAUL HEYMAN’S DOUBLE BETRAYAL: When Paul Heyman is involved, you pretty much better expect anything and anticipate everything. Even though it seemed like a good chance that Heyman was going to impact the outcome of the Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania 41 between CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, no one could have imagined that he would double cross both “Heyman Guys” in a scoundrel-like fashion of low blows from behind. Heyman screwed the most tenured Heyman Guy in CM Punk and then the guy he has had the most success with in Roman Reigns to join the newest flavor with Seth Rollins.
1. JOHN CENA’S FACE: Cena becoming a “bad guy” at WWE Elimination Chamber, the stunning visual of his face turning from good to evil as The Final Boss signaled that it was time to take out Cody Rhodes, is a monumental moment that will live forever. The transition to a maniacal monster was undeniable by a simple change in expression. If you want to talk about insane moments of 2025, that’s your winner, and nobody is even close. That, coupled with the fact that this is Cena’s farewell, added to the shock of the moment.
Honorable mentions
• Logan Paul’s frog splash onto Jelly Roll: You expect to see crazy moves from Logan Paul and especially at a PLE like SummerSlam, but definitely not aimed at Jelly Roll. Both get props on this one.
• R-Truth’s return: R-Truth’s shocking return at WWE Money in the Bank to drill Cena with the Undisputed WWE Championship gave us the Truth back. Especially with what led up to Truth’s return made it all the more shocking.
• Jey Uso at the Rumble: Jey Uso reversing the Attitude Adjustment and eliminating Cena from the Royal Rumble led to Uso winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41, then celebrating with his son in the ring.
• JD McDonough’s painful Moonsault: It’s still difficult to watch JD McDonough crashing onto the announce table, which resulted in broken ribs and a punctured lung.
• Joe Hendry at WrestleMania: Joe Hendry's WrestleMania moment in front of 60,000 fans at Allegiant Stadium, where he represented TNA against one of the best of all time, Randy Orton, was something that won’t soon be forgotten.
• Candice LeRae’s ladder madness: Candice LeRae crashing through a ladder from 25 feet or so above the ring during a WWE Tag Team Title TLC Match at SummerSlam was maniacal.
• Bianca Belair’s hair whip: Bianca Belair has had a couple of good ones this year, but none more disturbing than a thunderous hair whip she delivered to Liv Morgan during WWE Elimination Chamber.
• CM Punk’s Punkanomics: MC Punk responded to Cena’s “pipe bomb” rip-off with a Basic Punkanomics one of his own that won’t soon be forgotten. It was elite.
