Kofi Kingston def. Drew McIntyre (New Intercontinental Champion)
DETROIT -- Kofi Kingston used his second chance to its full potential at Over the Limit, officially defeating Drew McIntyre for the Intercontinental Championship. McIntyre's devastating loss was capped off by a shocking attack by a returning Matt Hardy. (PHOTOS)
During his extremely physical battle against the Scottish Superstar, Kingston deftly reversed his opponent's Double Underhook DDT and hit him with the S.O.S. to win his second Intercontinental Title.
Earlier this month on SmackDown, Kingston defeated Christian to earn the vacated Intercontinental Title. But Kingston was quickly stripped of the championship when the fired former titleholder, McIntyre, returned with a letter from Mr. McMahon. The Chairman overruled SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long's actions of ridding Friday nights of McIntyre because of his earlier attack on Hardy. The Scottish Superstar took back the title he seemingly never lost.
But after his defeat at Over the Limit, McIntyre wasted little time before complaining in front of the WWE Universe. He threatened SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long with his job and ordered him to reverse the decision and declare him the Intercontinental Champion again. But the "Chosen One's" wish wasn't granted, as instead of Long appearing, it was an angry, reinvigorated Hardy who returned for retribution. Hardy barreled down the ramp toward the irritated McIntyre and hit him with a shocking Twist of Fate, leaving him helpless.
Now that Kingston has officially earned the Intercontinental Championship, and Hardy has gotten his retribution, what is next for the fallen McIntyre? What will he do to regain his composure … and the Intercontinental Title? Tune in to SmackDown Friday nights at 8/7 CT.
