WWE and local dignitaries celebrate WrestleMania 34 announcement in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — WrestleMania’s return to the Big Easy has captured the attention of the entire sports-entertainment world — including one of WWE’s most iconic figures of all time, The Undertaker.

The Deadman made his presence felt today at a Superstar-studded press conference where WWE officials and local dignitaries formally announced that New Orleans’ Mercedes-Benz Superdome will host WrestleMania 34 on Sunday, April 8, 2018.

It will be WrestleMania’s first time at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome since 2014, when 75,167 WWE fans from all 50 states and 36 countries attended WrestleMania 30. That memorable night saw Daniel Bryan claim the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, the inaugural edition of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and the historic clash between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker, which ended The Undertaker’s hallowed undefeated WrestleMania Streak.

Returning to the scene of his most infamous loss, The Deadman — one night after appearing on Raw to declare entry in this year’s Royal Rumble Match — arrived in the final moments of the press conference to give a familiar New Orleans salute: “Let the good times roll.”

The Undertaker was not the only Superstar on hand to usher in the big news of WrestleMania’s comeback to New Orleans. Roman Reigns, Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and The Miz, accompanied by Maryse, all spoke about the significance of WrestleMania, as did Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events & Creative Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and WWE Senior Vice President of Special Events John Saboor.

Stephanie McMahon speaks about the unifying power of WrestleMania

The excitement and attraction of WrestleMania cuts across all demographics, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon explains.

Joining them were Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, who spoke about the economic impact for communities that host The Showcase of the Immortals.

In addition to WrestleMania 34, the New Orleans area will host WrestleMania Axxess, the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, NXT TakeOver, Monday Night Raw and SmackDown LIVE, as well as a slew of community outreach events, as part of next year’s WrestleMania Week.
