Event Venue
Madison Square Garden
Madison Square Garden is called the world's most famous arena, and it's also WWE's home away from home. Although WWE's headquarters are located in Stamford, CT, MSG has long been viewed as WWE's unofficial home. It was the birthplace of the first ever WrestleMania (as well as X and XX) and it was also the home to the first ever SummerSlam in 1989 and then again in 1991 and 1998. It's the only venue to host SummerSlam three times.
The Garden, which is also the home of the New York Knicks, has been the setting for some of the most famous moments in sports history. Knick fans everywhere will forever remember Willis Reed's heroic performance in the NBA Playoffs as he shook off a major leg injury to help guide his team to victory. The great Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier in one of the most memorable heavyweight boxing matches of all time at The Garden.
Even Pope John Paul II came to Madison Square Garden. And subsequently, Sinead O'Connor was booed off the stage at one of her concerts after she tore up a picture of the Pope on an edition of Saturday Night Live. Musical acts ranging from Springsteen to the Rolling Stones to Frank Sinatra to U2 have all performed at Madison Square Garden.
