Why did John Cena choose The Rock?
For a couple of weeks on Raw, John Cena seemed to have both The Miz and R-Truth in check all by himself (WATCH). In fact, many members of the WWE Universe asked on Twitter if Cena even needed The Rock as his tag team partner against Awesome Truth at Survivor Series. WWE.com now asks the question, does John Cena need The Rock as his tag team partner at Survivor Series or does John Cena want The Rock as his partner for ulterior motives not yet theorized?
Cena claimed he chose The Rock as his tag team partner against “Awesome Truth” at Survivor Series because he wanted someone outside of John Laurinaitis’ reach so he couldn’t be corrupted. However, Cena went so far outside the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Interim Raw General Manager’s reach that he chose his opponent at WrestleMania XXVIII: The Rock. (Note: Yes, we are required to use Mr. John Laurinaitis’ full titles whenever referencing him.)
The Rock has the advantage of conveniently being able to scout the Cenation leader from one of “The Peoples’ Homes” or a movie set simply by watching WWE pay-per-views and Monday Night Raw. The Brahma Bull hasn’t competed in a match since WrestleMania XX, more than seven years ago. The People’s Champ has been training at his own private facility in Hollywood, occasionally tweeting photos from @TheRock. Conversely, Cena competes all over the world at WWE live events well more than 200 times annually. Survivor Series may be Cena’s only chance to scout The Rock – from arm’s reach – before their epic encounter at WrestleMania XXVIII.
The Rock has arguably the biggest ego in the history of WWE. After all, he only refers to himself in the third person, citing one of his many monikers like “The People’s Champion” and “The Most Electrifying Man in Entertainment.” However, mental preparation aside, there’s also the physical aspects of The Great One’s preparedness. Recent images of The Rock depict him as being in the best condition of his life. In fact, he may be more vulnerable psychologically than physically. What would it do to The Rock’s psyche if he had to stand on the ring apron just feet from John Cena as Cena decided not to tag The Rock in and instead opted to win the match on his own? Is The People’s Champ mentally equipped to withstand such a humbling experience or would it eat at his unparalleled confidence for four months?
At WrestleMania XXVII, the Cenation leader was embarrassed on The Grandest Stage of Them All when The Miz retained his WWE Championship against Cena following a Rock Bottom with the world watching (PHOTOS). Will John Cena use The World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, as the stage to return the favor and give The Rock an Attitude Adjustment.
WWE.com and The WWE Universe have lots of questions but only John Cena has the answers.
