Bryan battled Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes for pride on the first Raw SuperShow of 2012. The cocky Rhodes left himself prey to a reversal of fortune as Bryan countered a suplex attempt into a victorious pinfall. Jan. 29, 2012 – Bryan escaped the cage at 2012 Royal Rumble

With the odds stacked against him by SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long, Bryan found himself in a Triple Threat Steel Cage Match with no place to run nor hide against Big Show and Mark Henry at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Feb. 19, 2012 – Bryan survived the Elimination Chamber intact

Despite six Superstars squaring off in the SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match for a chance at claiming his championship gold, the odds tilted in Bryan’s favor as he drew the match’s last entry spot. Big Show attempted to negate the titleholder’s late luck with a preemptive strike, but Bryan ultimately prevailed inside the unforgiving chamber at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee after ending Santino Marella’s bid to collect another upset victory. Feb. 21, 2012 – Bryan battled CM Punk to a draw on SmackDown

Raw Interim General Manager John Laurinaitis may have cancelled an initial result to the submission specialist’s benefit, but Bryan made the most of the match restart after appearing to pin WWE Champion CM Punk for a victory in their Champion vs. Champion clash on SmackDown. Confusion reigned as the combatants ultimately battled to a draw, but Bryan would record a controversial win via disqualification against The Second City Saint on Raw SuperShow just five days later.
