SmackDown Five-Point Preview: May 28, 2015
‘Brothers’ in arms take on Authority
Three days after Dean Ambrose teamed with Roman Reigns against Kane & Seth Rollins on Raw, pinning the WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the process, he’ll again join forces with The Big Dog against The Authority mainstays when they battle in a Raw rematch tonight at 8/7 C on Syfy.
The Lunatic Fringe will get his opportunity at Rollins’ World Title on Sunday at WWE Elimination Chamber — available only on WWE Network for those looking to watch in the United States. With Reigns helping him to even the odds, things have never looked better for the unstable Superstar. In fact, if the action goes anything like it did Monday night, watch for the No. 1 contender to secure even more momentum heading into the biggest match of his career.
But that’s not if The Architect — and The Authority, for that matter — have anything to say about it. Considering the calculating nature of the reigning titleholder, especially when his back is against the wall, Thursday night’s hottest show could very well end up being all above what’s “best for business” when all is said and done.
Feeding on broken hearts?
Feed … him … more! Ryback has been on an absolute tear of late, as The Human Wrecking Ball prepares to battle five other hungry Superstars in the first-ever Elimination Chamber Match for the Intercontinental Title this Sunday on WWE Network. Before he does, however, he has one more rock to chew through when he takes on Rusev on tonight's SmackDown.
But what type of Rusev will he be facing? Following The Bulgarian Brute’s failure to re-form his union with the Lana on Monday’s Raw, you have to wonder whether he will be distracted by the loss of his beautiful companion. Or will the rage from the situation make him even more dangerous than he already is? One thing is for sure: If he takes The Big Guy lightly, he could walk into Elimination Chamber on the heels of a crushing defeat.
Lumberjacks gone wild
Since the announcement of the first-ever Elimination Chamber Match for the WWE Tag Team Championships — taking place at on WWE Network this Sunday — the tag team division has been on absolute fire. Look for the flames to only get thicker on SmackDown, when Cesaro & Tyson Kidd take on the high-flying Lucha Dragons in a Lumberjack Match — with the rest of their Chamber opponents surrounding the ring.
With the monumental Elimination Chamber showdown on the horizon, we would not be surprised if the contest quickly descends into a total free-for-all.
The NXT Champion invades SmackDown
United States Champion John Cena will battle a whole new kind of enemy at WWE Elimination Chamber when he takes on NXT Champion Kevin Owens. Fresh off a second Pop-up Powerbomb on The Champ during Monday’s Raw, the indie veteran will address the WWE Universe on SmackDown. What will the unspoken competitor have to say? And will the leader of the Cenation be on hand to answer with a counter attack of his own?
Who will survive the Diva onslaught?
At WWE Elimination Chamber, Nikki Bella will put her Divas Championship on the line in a Triple Threat Match against two of her heated adversaries, Naomi and Paige. The growing conflict over the butterfly-emblazoned title has turned the Divas division upside-down. And after Tamina overcame Paige with Naomi’s help on Monday’s Raw, The Diva of Tomorrow will certainly seek retribution when she takes on Naomi one-on-one tonight.
But that will surely not be the only threat for the challengers. Considering everything at stake this Sunday, we have no doubt Nikki will make sure she is not too far from the action.
