Chicago Cubs baseball night at Raw

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs star pitchers Ryan Dempster, a two-time All-Star, and Bob Howry, made the short trip from Wrigley Field to Allstate Arena to enjoy Raw live. Before witnessing the action, the teammates of the NL Central Division-leading "Cubbies" were special guests on a brand-new episode of Santino's Casa, airing this Thursday.

"You've got to remember, especially where we are, to think of the little people like Santino. To be able to help him out, that's what we're here to do," Dempster, who was named one of the 99 "Good Guys" in professional sports by The Sporting News, joked. "I enjoy seeing these guys. I think they're unbelievable athletes. The grind they put their bodies through 250 to 350 days a year is pretty remarkable. WWE events get bigger and better each year."

During the baseball season, Dempster and Howry sometimes find themselves watching WWE programming in the clubhouse or on TiVo. Howry spends hours on his days off watching several weeks of Raw shows to get caught up.

"I'm just a big WWE fan. Any time we see them on the schedule in the same city we're in, we make it a priority to go," Howry said. "My favorite guys to watch today are Triple H and Batista. Like the name says, he's an Animal. At the same time, I also enjoy seeing the new guys like Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase."  (PHOTOS)

Being at Raw reminded Dempster and Howry of their youth. Growing up, the fireballers watched the likes of Jerry "The King" Lawler, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Hulk Hogan.

"I loved Steamboat. I asked [my mom] for a kimono dragon one year for Christmas, and she told me no," said Dempster, among the league leaders in earned run average and strikeouts. "Being a kid in that era, Hulk Hogan was so cool. I remember watching Saturday Night's Main Event at my friend's house, and hearing his theme music. I liked the song so much."

Howry agreed with Dempster, reminiscing about one of his favorite cartoons: Hulk Hogan's Rock ‘n' Wrestling.

"I used to watch it every Saturday," Howry added with a smile.

Before the show, Dempster and Howry chatted with Chicago native and Raw General Manager Mike Adamle, World Tag Team Champions Rhodes and DiBiase and Cryme Tyme. One of the many highlights of their night came when Chicago's native son, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, dropped by the Casa set to greet the teammates and thank them for coming out.

"We met CM Punk last year in Dayton [Ohio]. He's a big Cubs fan, and I'm a big fan of his. I'm fired-up for him, because he's carrying around the World Heavyweight title. He seemed pretty happy after retaining [the gold] last night at SummerSlam," Dempster recalled.

So, did their experience on Santino's Casa inspire them to make a career move?

"I don't have much of a job in acting afterward," Howry explained. "Santino would though … he's a little out there."
