The Miz and CM Punk injured at Raw; Plus, an update on Miz's injury status following SmackDown

Ryback and Curtis Axel attack CM Punk: Raw, Sept. 23, 2013

Paul Heyman baits CM Punk into an attack by Ryback & Curtis Axel.

It was a rough night in Chicago for The Miz and CM Punk, both of whom suffered injuries at the hands of, respectively, Big Show and Ryback & Curtis Axel over the course of a tumultuous Windy City Raw. (Read follow-up injury updates on both Punk and Miz - from Tuesday and Friday nights - below)

Despite being injured before suffering the KO Punch that left him unconscious, it was surprisingly Miz who fared the better of the two wounded warriors. Although the former WWE Champion's initial evaluation seemed to point to a serious injury, by the time Dr. Chris Amann was able to examine him more thoroughly later in the night, The Awesome One was given what amounted to a clean bill of health.

“We did evaluate [Miz] in the training room and everything appeared to look OK,” said Amann. “He had some bruising around the jawbone; I expect him to be pretty sore, but it doesn’t appear as though there’s any major damage.”

As for Punk, however, Amann tells a much more uncertain tale.

“Punk, as you saw, went through a table and landed on the concrete. He suffered multiple bruises and scrapes on his back,” said Amann. “We advised him to get additional treatment, including some X-rays, but he refused, so we’re going to follow up with him tomorrow, see how he feels and re-evaluate him then.”

Whether the grisly trip through the table will lead to more tests for the former WWE Champion remains to be seen. “It’s certainly possible,” said Amann. “Based on how he’s feeling and what his symptoms are will determine whether we do any additional testing or not.”

UPDATE: TUESDAY, SEPT. 24

WWE.com spoke to Dr. Amann for an update on CM Punk's condition. “Fortunately, he is feeling a lot better,” Dr. Amann told WWE.com “Punk's injuries do not seem to be as severe as we initially anticipated, so we did not have to do any additional studies or imaging. It looks like it’s mostly just bumps and bruises, and we are going to keep on monitoring him. His status is day-to-day.”

UPDATE: FRIDAY, SEPT. 27

WWE.com spoke to Dr. Amann for an update on The Miz's condition after the Superstar took a beating at the hands of Randy Orton on SmackDown.

“Miz has been pretty headstrong with the medical staff. Although he has been cleared to compete in matches, he is still suffering from some soreness and discomfort in his arm and neck,” Dr. Amann told WWE.com. “Fortunately, there is no serious damage. At this point, however, he has basically re-aggravated a bunch of existing injuries.  We are trying to get him to cooperate with us and limit his activity, but he is very adamant about continuing to work. His status at this point is day-to-day.”

Keep checking back with WWE.com for more updates on the condition of the two Superstars.
