Batista def. Shawn Michaels (Stretcher Match)
SAN DIEGO -- After discovering that Shawn Michaels had faked a knee injury in order to defeat him at Backlash, Batista promised he would hurt The Showstopper. Consider him a man of his word.
During their Stretcher Match at One Night Stand, The Animal not only defeated his rival, he unleashed his pent-up animosity toward Michaels, dragging him atop the stretcher, pushing him across the finish line and leaving him motionless after the conclusion of the match.
In the weeks leading up to One Night Stand, Batista's anger hung thick in the air. After all, HBK is the man who retired Batista's mentor, Ric Flair, during WrestleMania XXIV, having uttered the now unforgettable words, "I'm sorry. I love you."
Now it was time for Batista to turn Michaels' own words against him.
"I don't love you, and I'm not sorry," The Animal growled.
The sentiment only caused the battle to boil over, with Michaels laying out Batista on the stretcher several times during the match.
But then, it was The Animal's turn. He dropped his opponent with a devastating Batista Bomb. At one point, as Michaels lie atop the stretcher, Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho emerged to will The Showstopper to continue ("You're better than this!" he shouted), spurring Michaels on. The Animal's size and strength advantage, however, was simply too much to overcome.
With his victory, Batista proved once again that he will not make promises he doesn't intend to keep.
