Saliva returns to rock the WWE Universe
Saliva has returned to thrill the WWE Universe again. The band, who has provided theme songs for five past pay-per-views, ECW and several WWE Superstars, is back with this year's No Way Out theme, "Hunt You Down." (Listen l Get it at iTunes l Saliva & WWE retrospective)
"We have a longstanding relationship with WWE and the McMahon family, and we're really proud to be working with them again," said Saliva frontman, Josey Scott.
"I think our music goes hand-in-hand with the drama of WWE. I think one lends itself to the other, really well. It's a good marriage of music and entertainment."
"Hunt You Down" is off the band's fifth Island Records album, Cinco Diablo, which was released in December. Scott said the hard-hitting song is great for a pay-per-view like No Way Out.
"Originally we wrote it about some beef that we had with some people as a band. Instead of handling it in the street and all ending up in jail or something, we handled it on the mic," Scott explained. "We sort of wrote that song about the drama we were going through. We sort of wrote it like an open letter to any hater, so it lends itself to a lot of different positions, and WWE just happens to be a perfect fit."
Scott told WWE.com that when the band went into the studio to record Cinco Diablo, their goal was to produce a heavy record. "Family Reunion," the first single off the new album, hit No. 14 on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks. Scott said the song is a gift to the band's fans.
"It's like an open letter to our fans -- giving them some love and appreciation for all the years they supported us. We have millions of die-hard fans that love us to death, who are really, really die-hard, who show up every night, who come out to every city, all over the world and especially in the United States, as well."
Saliva is on an American tour, playing dates in North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana and other Southern states through the end of February. The band kicks off a North American tour with Shinedown on March 7 in Rochester, N.Y. Scott promised Saliva will play the ECW theme song, "Don't Question My Heart" with Shinedown's vocalist, Brent Smith, while on tour. (More info l Listen l iTunes).
"Yeah, definitely, we've got plans for that. We have a couple of tricks up our sleeves. We have some surprises coming up on this tour," Scott said, pointing out the band is grateful for the WWE Universe's support.
"We just love the WWE fans. We've got much love for them. We can't wait to see them on the road."
