Orton awarded WWE Championship, but challenged by The Game
CHICAGO -- History was made immediately at the start of No Mercy Sunday night as Randy Orton was awarded the WWE Championship. But the Legend Killer didn't have time to celebrate his victory -- Triple H immediately challenged him for the title tonight.
Mr. McMahon, in consultation lived up to his guarantee that a new WWE Champion would be crowned at No Mercy and decided to award the title to Orton. The Legend Killer, who put John Cena out for six months to a year with a severe injury and was to face him in a Last Man Standing Match for the title at No Mercy, basked in his victory, holding the WWE Championship for all to see.
But a damper was put on the celebratory pyrotechnics. The champagne had to be put on ice when Triple H interrupted Orton's celebration and challenged him to a championship match. The Legend Killer knew he was going to defend the championship, but he expected to evaluate and handpick his opponent later tonight. But The Game goaded the Chairman into setting up the matchup right away.
Stay with No Mercy and find out what will happen when new WWE Champion Randy Orton defends his title against Triple H.
