A Fighting Champion
This Sunday at Vengeance, Rob Van Dam will put the WWE Championship that he fought 16 years to earn on the line when he takes on the Rated-R Superstar, Edge. The average Champion would dread such an occasion, mainly in fear of losing the gold they worked an entire career to hold. RVD, on the other hand is looking forward to his first Championship defense this Sunday.
Van Dam, who is not only the WWE Champion, but also the newly crowned ECW World Heavyweight Champion has been looking forward to facing Edge for some time. The ECW legend took a spear from Edge on the world premiere of ECW on Sci Fi, but according to RVD, the spear did nothing to affect the mindset of the master of the 5-Star Frogsplash. “I’m looking forward to the match, and I was looking forward to it even before he speared me. He didn’t need to add anything extra to this match. The spear was meant to insult me. It takes a lot to get to me and I don’t think that’s about to change. Of course, now, on top of just beating Edge, I’m thinking about insulting him back. Call it a receipt.”
The hardcore veteran and martial arts expert knows that many WWE fans expect Edge to reclaim the Championship this Sunday at Vengeance. RVD looks to those doubters as motivation in defending the gold. “It’s not under ECW rules, so it’s probably going to affect what I can use in the match. But, I’m looking forward to this because it’s my first title defense. It’s a good thing being the World Champ, and I believe a lot of people don’t expect me to hold on to it for very long. Because of that, I’m looking forward to defending it even more.”
