"The Best of WCW Monday Nitro" on DVD June 7
Relive the action, excitement, the chaos and the ultimate downfall of World Championship Wrestling’s flagship television program when The Best of WCW Monday Nitro comes to DVD on June 7.
“The Monday Night War” is one of the most revolutionary and impactful rivalries in entertainment history. WWE and WCW’s weekly battles for television ratings dominance began in 1995, when the Ted Turner-owned organization debuted WCW Monday Nitro to compete with WWE Monday Night Raw.
However, the struggle did not truly reach a fever pitch until 1996, following the introduction of the New World Order. Led by the nefarious Hollywood Hulk Hogan, the nWo took WCW by storm, and fans all over the world tuned in to see what they would do next. Added to WCW’s success was the reinvention of one of their top competitors, Sting, who would begin descending from the rafters to fight off the nWo.
In addition to the New World Order, WCW Monday Nitro also featured a number of future WWE Superstars and Hall of Famers, such as Dean Malenko, Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero in high-flying, fast-paced action each week that captivated fans of all ages.
After 84 consecutive weeks of ratings victories, WCW Monday Nitro would fall to the “Attitude Era" ushered in by D-Generation-X, The Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. As these and other Superstars propelled WWE back on top, WCW continued to decline until, finally, the organization would be claimed by its greatest rival.
The Best of WCW Monday Nitro, hosted by former WCW Champion Diamond Dallas Page, looks back at the history, the highs and the lows of the once-dominant program.
