The most tumultuous week ever

In a matter of just seven days, the face of WWE changed more than it ever has in the history of the company. And there's not a man alive today that can say they saw it coming.

Heading into last weekend, John Cena was WWE Champion, Batista was World Heavyweight Champion, sex was reserved for the bedroom, there was no United States Champion, Jillian had a mole… The list goes on and on. But all that changed, and changed quickly in what can only be described as the most tumultuous week ever.

It all started with New Year's Revolution when John Cena went wire to wire to win the Elimination Chamber. Cena's victory may not have shocked too many fans, as he has proved on countless occasions that he can overcome almost any obstacle put in front of him. But what happened afterwards shocked the entire sports-entertainment world. Nine months after becoming "Mr. Money in the Bank," Edge finally cashed in his WWE Championship opportunity. Then, in a matter of just minutes, Cena's impressive reign as champion was stolen from him after two spears. Edge, a Superstar that was not even involved in the Elimination Chamber at New Year's Revolution, was then presented with his WWE Championship.

The chaos continued a mere 24 hours later when the Rated R Superstar and his girlfriend, Lita, rang in Edge's WWE Championship reign with a live sex celebration in the middle of the ring on RAW. WWE has seen some crazy celebrations in the past. In fact, it wasn't that long ago when Ric Flair celebrated his Intercontinental Championship victory with several beautiful women and some champagne in the back of a limo. But there has never been a celebration like the one Edge and Lita put on, not even by the Nature Boy. Edge waited 14 years for the WWE Championship and there was no stopping him from celebrating the way he wanted to celebrate. After disrobing Lita and getting under the covers, the new WWE Champion even went so far as to pop his head out from under the sheets with Lita's panties in his mouth. Who knows what else we would have seen if Ric Flair and John Cena never interrupted. One thing's for certain, we may never see another celebration like that again. [WATCH]

With all that insanity happening on the RAW side of things, at least SmackDown still had the stability of their World Heavyweight Champion. Or did they? Two days after John Cena had the WWE Championship stolen from him at New Year's Revolution, it was learned that Batista, as a result of injuries sustained at the hands of Mark Henry, had surrendered his World Heavyweight Championship over to General Manager Theodore Long at the SmackDown television taping in Philadelphia.

WWE had been shaken to its foundation. In a matter of just days, both RAW and SmackDown had lost their champions. Prior to Sunday, the Road to WrestleMania seemed so clear -- in January, there would be the Royal Rumble. The winner of that match would then choose to face either WWE Champion John Cena or World Heavyweight Champion Batista at WrestleMania. That is no longer the case.

The craziness does not stop there, however. After Batista surrendered his title to Theodore Long, the SmackDown General Manager declared that a new World Heavyweight Champion would be crowned that very night. The new champion would be the winner of a 20-man, over-the-top-rope Battle Royal. You can imagine the excitement running through the SmackDown locker room. Now try to imagine the disappointment of the SmackDown Superstars when RAW's Kurt Angle not only entered the Battle Royal, but won it and became the new World Heavyweight Champion. That's right, in a truly unprecedented turn of events, RAW's Kurt Angle now holds SmackDown's World Heavyweight Championship. [WATCH]

Another WWE first happened on the very same night when Randy Orton defeated Chris Benoit for the United States Championship in the final match of the thrilling best-of-seven series. The catch is that Orton didn't win the U.S. Championship for himself. Rather, the Legend Killer was merely a replacement for the injured Booker T. Never before had a replacement won the United States Championship for another Superstar. But when Orton defeated Benoit at SmackDown, it was just another unimaginable event in a week full of unbelievable happenings. [WATCH]

Believe it or not, there was even more chaos that ensued this past week in WWE. However, it didn't include an Elimination Chamber, the crowning of a new World Champion, live sex in the middle of the ring or any replacement wrestlers. Instead, it had to do with the Boogeyman… and a mole. For weeks, SmackDown fans have seen the creepy Boogeyman chewing on live worms. But what he dined on this past week on SmackDown was even more disgusting, believe it or not. After crashing JBL and Jillian's appearance on Piper's Pit, the Boogeyman got a hold of the blonde image consultant. A spooked Jillian had nowhere to run as the Boogeyman looked her up and down. A few seconds later, he had his eye on the prize -- Jillian's mole. First, he licked the hideous growth a few time. Then, with a squeamish audience looking on in awe, the Boogeyman bit Jillian's mole right off her face. Rather than spitting the disgusting growth out of his mouth, he continued to chew on it until there was nothing left. [WATCH]

Heading into this week, it'll be interesting to see how both RAW and SmackDown rebound from the insanity of last week. As it stands now, though, it doesn't appear as though things won't be slowing down any time soon. In fact, Monday night on RAW both champions will be in action. The new World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle will battle Shawn Michaels in what is sure to be another instant classic. And for the first time ever, the WWE Championship will be defended in a TLC Match when Edge puts his title on the line against the 16-time World Champion Ric Flair. Does the Nature Boy have another reign on top left in the tank? Or will the Rated R Superstar's experience in TLC Matches propel him to victory?
