Van Dam and Sabu plead guilty

Robert Szatowski and Terry Brunk, better known to ECW fans as Rob Van Dam and Sabu, respectively, pleaded guilty to drug charges Thursday at Ironton Municipal Court in Ohio.

Sabu pleaded to third-degree possession of drugs, and the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dropped due to a plea bargain. Sabu was sentenced to 10 days in jail by Judge Clark Collins, but the time was suspended, and he will have to pay a fine of $500 and court costs.

Van Dam was sentenced to pay a $140 fine and court costs after pleading guilty to driving 73 mph in a 55 mph zone and third degree possession of marijuana. Van Dam was also originally charged with possession of Vicodin, but the charge was dropped when he proved he had a valid prescription.

According to the Ironton Tribune, however, the court appearance was not without incident. The publication reports that when Van Dam and Sabu entered the courtroom, the two Extremists greeted the media with obscene hand gestures.

Neither Van Dam nor Sabu were able to be reached for comment.

Van Dam and Sabu were first stopped in Hanging Rock, Ohio by Ohio State Highway Patrol at about 10:15 p.m. Van Dam was initially stopped for speeding, but when the troopers approached the vehicle, they smelled marijuana and performed a search. Troopers found Van Dam in possession of 18 grams of marijuana and five Vicodin, prescription pain pills. Sabu was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and also had nine pills that were not immediately identifiable.
