The Coconut Heard ‘Round the World

The Coconut Heard ‘Round the World

WWE Hall of Famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper is the host of his fiery interview segment, "Piper's Pit," in which "Hot Rod" has verbally -- and most times, physically -- battled with the biggest WWE legends. Piper's "Rough Side," however, became known globally in the spring of 1984 during one of the most legendary interviews in "Pit" history.

Attempting to make fellow Hall of Famer Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka feel "more at home," the verbally abusive Hot Scot poured a pile of tropical fruits in front of the islander, including bananas, a pineapple and coconuts.

When Snuka tried to get a word in edgewise, Piper lashed out and cracked a coconut on his rival's skull, sending "Superfly" careening into the set and through the backdrop. As further humiliation, Piper stuffed a banana in the face of the prone Snuka, then whipped him with his leather belt.

The following week, on the interview show Tuesday Night Titans, "Hot Rod" continued his rampage, slapping broadcaster Lord Alfred Hayes when he was asked to explain his attack.

"I don't need to give nobody a chance!" Piper ranted. "I gave [Snuka] the microphone. He stood there for two minutes … the guy was a bumbling idiot! He deserved everything he got! He's lucky I didn't do a little more … I destroyed a legend right there!"

Clearly, Piper's "Rough Side" was out of control that day -- some may argue that it still is. So perhaps it should come as no surprise why the coconut incident with Snuka easily cracks WWE.com's List as our No. 8 "Rough Side/Soft Side Moment."
