WWE.com debate results: Who’s the best tag team in WWE today?

Earlier this week, several WWE.com staffers made passionate arguments in favor of the tag team they believed was the best duo going today. After all of the talking points were laid out on the table, we turned the debate over to you, the WWE Universe, and asked you to vote for the tandem you think stands heads and shoulders above the competition.

The polls are now closed and the votes have been tallied. But before digging into the winners, let’s take a quick look at some of the feedback we received.

Not an easy choice …
As should be the case with any good debate, the question of which team is the best in WWE today generated some deep reflection by WWE fans. “The results for this should be pretty close because all the teams have stepped up lately,” commenter Kyle Christie noted, before calling out Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins, Jimmy & Jey Uso and WWE Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes & Goldust in particular.

Several commenters found themselves torn between voting for a pair of patriots and The Hounds of Justice. “I can't decide between The Real Americans and The Shield! It's so hard...” wrote Marcin Gawlik.

“Real Americans all day long, two of the best technical wrestlers in the business today,” Jak Clark commented, adding, “The Shield are a close second though. WE THE PEOPLE!”

Where are 3MB and Tons of Funk?
One of the more common queries in response to the WWE.com debate was regarding the whereabouts of two teams: the tone-deaf trio of 3MB and WWE’s resident boogying big men, Tons of Funk. Though neither crew made the final cut (only seven editors participated, so only seven teams were included), suffice to say that both 3MB and Tons of Funk still have plenty of support from the WWE Universe.

Tag team wrestling isn’t dead
One thing’s for certain: The WWE Universe loves its tag team competition as much as it ever has. Though there were a few rogue write-in entries in the comments section (former World Tag Team Champions Prof. Tanaka & Mr. Fuji, D-Generation X and Michael Cole & JBL, for example), the appetite for two-on-two matches has never been greater.

After debating which team to vote for, Khalil Goodson summed it up this way: “WWE has some great tag teams out right now. I'd love to see a lot more of them.”

Now, onto the results …
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the duo that took home the lion’s share of votes was the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions, Cody Rhodes & Goldust, with nearly 50 percent fan approval.

See how the other teams fared in this duo-by-duo breakdown:
Cody Rhodes & Goldust — 46%
The Shield (Roman Reigns  & Seth Rollins) — 20%
The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) — 14%
Los Matadores (Diego & Fernando) — 7%
The Real Americans (Antonio Cesaro & Jack Swagger) — 6%
The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) — 4%
Prime Time Players (Titus O’Neil & Darren Young) — 3%
