Chris Benoit def. Finlay

The fans at the U.S. Airways Arena got everything they expected and more when Chris Benoit and Finlay finally met in hand-to-hand combat at Judgment Day. After a long and grueling old-fashioned fight, Benoit came away the winner when Finlay tapped out to his submission move.

For Benoit, the victory had the sweet smell of revenge after Finlay's controversial tactics just three weeks ago in their first round King of the Ring tournament match. On that night, Finlay used the shillelagh en route to a questionable victory but at Judgment Day, the Irishman had no such luck.

During the match, both competitors used all their resources. At one point, Finlay attempted to bring a steel chair in to the ring, but it ended up backfiring when Benoit used a baseball slide to send the chair colliding into Finlay's face. Later, Finlay resorted to more shenanigans, trying to bring the shillelagh into play, but unlike King of the Ring, things didn't go according to plan. A german suplex to the floor, flying headbutt from the top turnbuckle and a Crossface later, the match was over and Benoit came out on top.

After the match, WWE.com caught up to an irate Finlay, who offered nothing short of fighting words. "This is far from over. We Irish may lose a battle or two, but we always win the war."
