Badd Blood 1997 - Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell Match

At SummerSlam 1997, Shawn Michaels officiated the WWE Championship Match between Undertaker and Bret Hart. An errant chairshot from Michaels cost the Deadman the gold, and he wanted revenge. The end result was the first-ever Hell in a Cell Match at Badd Blood, with the winner becoming the No. 1 Contender for the WWE Championship.

From the opening bell to the closing minutes, Undertaker dominated the match, tossing HBK around at will. Shawn was busted open early in the match after being catapulted into the Cell, and the Deadman methodically and viciously beat him down. At one point, HBK accidentally nailed a cameraman with Sweet Chin Music, knocking him out; because of this, the Cell door was opened to help the cameraman out, and after Michaels hit Undertaker with Sweet Chin Music, the action spilled outside of the Cell.

Once outside, HBK tried to climb the structure, but Undertaker caught him. After being brutalized on top of the chain link roof of the Cell, Michaels tried to crawl back down. Undertaker stomped on his fingers as he climbed, forcing Michaels to let go. As a result, HBK was sent crashing 15 feet down into the announcers’ table.

Back inside the Cell, Undertaker looked to have Michaels beaten, and went for the Tombstone. At that point, the lights went out, and Paul Bearer made his way to ringside. Bearer brought Kane with him, who was making his first appearance in WWE after weeks of Bearer’s hype. Kane ripped the Cell door off and entered the structure, nailing the referee. Kane then gave Undertaker a Tombstone Piledriver, taking the Deadman out. The bloody, beaten Michaels rolled on top of Undertaker, the referee made the three count, and Michaels walked out of Hell in a Cell victorious.
