World Heavyweight Champion Edge def. Batista (World Heavyweight Championship Match)

World Heavyweight Champion Edge def. Batista (World Heavyweight Championship Match)

DALLAS -- World Heavyweight Champion Edge made sure that Batista's apparent last chance at the title was unsuccessful, sending The Animal to his new home on Raw without the gold with the help of SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero.

The Rated-R Superstar's victory at Night of Champions evidently puts an end to the nearly year-long rivalry with The Animal -- a rivalry that saw the Ultimate Opportunist victorious over Batista each time they faced each other with the gold hanging in the balance. Unable to overcome the odds against him, The Animal now moves to Monday Night's empty-handed -- though he gave all he had to unseat Edge.

Despite having four stitches in his head from a devastating head-to-head collision with Edge this past week on Raw, Batista appeared poised to win his fourth World Heavyweight Championship, and to finally defeat the Rated-R Superstar, but it was not to be. After a spinebuster seemingly sealed the win for Batista, Vickie Guerrero stopped the referee's count by grabbing his foot, keeping Edge's championship reign alive.

It was then that Edge knocked out referee Mickie Henson, and Vickie brought out Chavo Guerrero as the special guest referee. As Chavo strolled out, Batista got his hands on Vickie, hoping to punish her for the months of anguish she has caused him. The Animal threw Vickie Guerrero over the top rope, but his back was turned to Edge, who used his gold across the already weakened skull of Batista to steal the win.

Now, Edge will return to SmackDown with the gold around his waist, having eliminated one of the biggest threats to his championship stronghold. The Rated-R Superstar and his bride-to-be already systematically eliminated Undertaker from WWE, and with Batista moving to Raw, who will be brave enough to challenge the World Heavyweight Champion, his powerful fiancée and the rest of "The Family"?
