For nearly a month, Zayn and Joe have been deadlocked in their quest to become No. 1 Contender to the NXT Championship. The neck-and-neck race began on Jan. 27 in a Triple Threat Match with Baron Corbin, where Zayn had The Lone Wolf locked in a Sharpshooter, only for Joe to apply a crossface. Trapped in simultaneous submission holds, Corbin had no choice but to tap out. However, because both Zayn and Joe had holds simultaneously applied, the referee could not determine a clear winner.
The two rivals clashed again on Feb. 17 in a grueling one-on-one battle. Zayn looked to have the upper hand as he clobbered Samoa Joe with the Helluva Kick in the corner. However, a battle-worn Zayn collapsed on top of Joe, resulting in both Superstars’ shoulders touching the mat. The referee counted to three and rang the bell, with both men arguing that they had scored the pinfall. Once again, the referee could not name a victor, ruling the bout a draw due to a double pin.
Regal has declared that there will be a winner and No. 1 Contender named after this battle between two of NXT’s top Superstars. Who will go on to challenge Finn Bálor? Find out tonight at 8/7 C, only on WWE Network!
