SmackDown Five-Point Preview: Aug. 24, 2012

How will Booker rule in the wake of SummerSlam controversy?

At SummerSlam, controversy engulfed the World Heavyweight Championship Match between Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio. Convinced the clever Great White cheated him out of the World Title, The Mexican Aristocrat filed an official protest with SmackDown General Manager Booker T. In response, the head of the blue brand Touted that he would address the incident tonight.

Then, while all parties awaited Booker’s word on the pending issue on Raw, The Celtic Warrior interjected in Del Rio’s match with Randy Orton, a move that cost his adversary the contest with an earth-shattering RKO by The Viper.

While Booker T has handled his position with sheer professionalism so far, he is still relatively new to the role of GM and cannot afford to let things spin out of control more than they already have. On the other hand, he also can’t let any of his Superstars dictate their agenda to him. So, what will the five-time WCW Champion do to fix the situation?

Is Dolph Ziggler now too big to contain?

Chris Jericho vs. Dolph Ziggler â€" Money in the Bank Contract Match: Raw, Aug. 20, 2012

Chris Jericho's WWE career is on the line against Dolph Ziggler's World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank Contract on Raw.

Sometimes when you put everything on the line, you end up losing it all. Case in point, after antagonizing Chris Jericho for weeks on end — poking a stick at one of the best in the business by saying he could no longer win “the big one” — The Showoff lost huge at SummerSlam and nearly returned to SmackDown eating his words. But in WWE, things can change in the blink of an eye. And after being made to put his Money in the Bank contract up against Jericho’s career on Raw, Ziggler instead gets to return tonight as a victorious conqueror.

Ziggler has everything going for him. Jericho is gone from WWE and his Money in the Bank contract is safe and sound. This raises the question: Has he fueled his confidence to the point where no one will be able to stop him? Could World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus be getting an unexpected challenger tonight as a result? Or will the bleach blond Superstar continue to bide his time as he finds another way to prove his elite status?

Who is safe while The Viper roams free?

Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio: Raw, Aug. 20, 2012

Randy Orton goes one-on-one with Alberto Del Rio while World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus joins in on commentary.

Randy Orton is not the type of Superstar that will wait to strike. As WWE announcers are fond of saying, WWE’s Apex Predator is very much a “ready, fire, aim” sort of warrior. His latest victim was Alberto Del Rio, who he defeated Monday on Raw — thanks in part to World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus alerting the referee to Orton’s foot on the rope during a Del Rio pin attempt. But, as someone who thrives on conflict, he is not one to rest on his laurels. Just who will The Viper seek out next?

Is there be an international incident brewing on SmackDown?

Santino Marella vs. Antonio Cesaro - United States Championship Match: SummerSlam 2012 Pre-Show

Santino Marella defends his United States Championship against Antonio Cesaro on the SummerSlam Pre-Show.

It seems like just yesterday that Antonio Cesaro was getting his tryout match as a favor to the lovely Aksana. But, five days ago in a special SummerSlam Pre-Show event, the Swiss Superstar struck gold when he defeated United States Champion Santino Marella to capture his first championship in WWE.

What will the now-former U.S. Champion Santino have to say when he comes before the WWE Universe tonight? Will he demand a rematch? Does he have what it takes to dethrone his sophisticated, yet ruthless, successor?

Has the new No. 1 contender to the butterfly-emblazoned title set herself up for big trouble?

Divas No. 1 Contender Battle Royal: Raw, Aug. 20, 2012

The WWE Divas compete in a No. 1 Contender Battle Royal for a shot at Layla's Divas Championship.

On Monday, Kaitlyn shocked the WWE Universe by winning a Divas Battle Royal to become the No. 1 contender to the Divas Championship. Who was the femme fatale that she dropped to ringside to reign supreme: none other than the new Assistant to the General Manager of SmackDown, Eve.

While Kaitlyn certainly elevated herself into a very favorable position with Monday’s victory, it may benefit her greatly to stay off the blue brand for a while. After all, it was she who opposed Eve for the position in the Booker Administration last Friday. When you add her win in the Battle Royal into the mix, she probably isn’t Eve’s favorite person right now. and considering her newfound power on Friday night, Eve may just be able to do something about it.
