SmackDown Five-Point Preview: Aug. 10, 2012

Will Jericho's “Highlight Reel” out show The Showoff?

Alex Riley vs. Dolph Ziggler: Raw, August 6, 2012

Chris Jericho Touts from the commentary table during Dolph Ziggler's match against Alex Riley.

On Monday’s Raw, a Tout-infused distraction by six-time World Champion Chris Jericho at ringside allowed Alex Riley to pick up a quick win on Dolph Ziggler. Surely still fuming from the loss, the incomparable Ziggler will be Jericho’s special guest on the “Highlight Reel” tonight.

To say there has been major friction between the two outspoken Superstars in recent weeks would be an understatement. Mr. Money in the Bank first initiated the dangerous confrontation with the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla by launching a verbal assault that questioned the highly decorated competitor's ability still win big matches. Jericho has since responded by making Ziggler’s life a living hell on both Raw and SmackDown, whether it be hitting him with the Codebreaker or hurling the bleach blond Superstar into the waiting boot of World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus.

So, when they come face to face on the always controversial talk show, one has to wonder whether action will speak louder than words.

Will Del Rio seek payback or strategic cover?

Sheamus Touts about taking Alberto Del Rio's luxury car for a spin: Raw, August 6, 2012

Sheamus hijacks Alberto Del Rio's car for some sight seeing around San Antonio.

On Monday, World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus “borrowed” Alberto Del Rio’s Ferrari, driving it all over San Antonio and trashing it in the process.

With nine days until their highly anticipated World Title rematch at SummerSlam, will the ruthlessly dangerous Mexican Aristocrat seek vengeance on The Great White for taking his property? Or will he continue to attempt to stay out of the ring altogether — a plan that has, more or less, blown up in his face since he proclaimed he would not compete until The Biggest Event of the Summer.

Who will become the No. 1 Contender to the WWE Tag Team Titles?

Primo & Epico vs. The Prime Time Players: Raw, August 6, 2012

A.W. leads his team to battle against Epico & Primo.

Earlier this week, in his first official Tout, General Manager Booker T announced a WWE Tag Team Title No. 1 Contender’s Match between and Primo & Epico and The Prime Time Players for tonight‘s SmackDown.

Things have been extremely heated between these two combinations since A.W., the owner of All World Promotions, dropped the former duo for O’Neil & Young in treacherous fashion. Last week, thanks in part to some questionable tactics by their crafty promoter, The PTP defeated both WWE titleholders — R-Truth and Kofi Kingston — in singles matches. However, four days ago on Raw, O’Neil & Young fell to Primo & Epico, thanks to interference from the champions.

Will A.W.’s trickery once again put his team into title contention? Or will Primo and Epico capture the No. 1 spot all by themselves?

Will Cody Rhodes learn to defy gravity?

Cody Rhodes confronts former adversary and new SmackDown General Manager Booker T: SmackDown, August 3, 2012

The new SmackDown General Manager Booker T talks with Divas Champion Layla until he is rudely interrupted by former adversary Cody Rhodes.

On the same night that SmackDown General Manager Booker T took the reins of power, he placed his longtime adversary Cody Rhodes into a match against Sin Cara, a showdown that will take place tonight.

While the new GM’s intention in making the contest could very well have been to put the former Intercontinental Champion in his place, the WWE Universe, nevertheless, had better get ready for a wild ride. Both Rhodes and Sin Cara are incredible athletes, and a clash of their unique styles is sure to create a memorable, fast-paced matchup that could be a glimpse on the true future of the business.

Is Jinder Mahal “feeding” himself to Ryback?

Ryback vs. Jinder Mahal: SmackDown, August 3, 2012

Ryback faces an unusual challenge with Jinder Mahal on SmackDown.

Two weeks ago on SmackDown, Jinder Mahal showed major offense against Ryback, before escaping under the ropes for a count-out loss. One week later, their return match — ordered by the new GM of SmackDown Booker T — ended with the Punjabi Superstar whacking his intense opponent with the microphone, getting disqualified and once again hightailing it out of town.

Considering the way Ryback dominated Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks on Raw, is it only a matter of time before he seeks out Mahal to settle their unfinished business? Or is it conceivable that Mahal can continue to defy expectation while sharing SmackDown with such an intense adversary.
