Who's the man?

After more than three years of holding down Monday nights, it appears as though Eric Bischoff's days as General Manager are numbered. Can't say I'm surprised. To be honest with you, I'm more surprised that Uncle Eric lasted as long as he did. When he got hired in July 2002, I set an over/under of five months before he was fired. Everybody here at WWE.com took the under. Obviously, we were all wrong.

So now that Mr. McMahon plans on taking out the trash, who will be the new leader of RAW? Shane McMahon you say? Not so fast. I've seen the McMahons pull this before. Picking Shane seems too obvious of a pick from where I sit. Oftentimes, Mr. McMahon likes to get you looking left, then hit you with a right. Don't be surprised if he does the same thing here. With that said, here is a list of possible new General Managers floating around the WWE.com offices that wouldn't surprise us to see picked this coming Monday.

Dusty Rhodes
When Dusty Rhodes signed his WWE contract a few months ago, he told WWE.com that he strictly wanted to work backstage. Just weeks after claiming his on-camera days were over, The Dream led a bunch of legends to the ring at WWE Homecoming on the USA Network. Not exactly staying out of the public eye, is it? Dusty's appearance on that show has lead the WWE.com staff to believe that he still has the desire to be in front of live crowds, contrary to what he said in the past. If that's the case, there are few roles for a retired wrestler more public than the RAW General Manager.

Bret Hart
It seems like the old adage of "time heels all wounds" is a perfect way of describing the Bret Hart/WWE relationship. Who would have thought that these two would ever come together for a common goal again? But they did. Not only did they co-produce the successful Hit Man DVD, but they also worked together on a magazine special and Bret made his return to live WWE programming earlier this month on Byte This! Will Bret be signing on as General Manager? It's a long shot, but don't be surprised.

Jerry Jarrett
As a longtime friend of Mr. McMahon, it wouldn't surprise us if Jerry Jarrett made a call to Titan Towers after watching RAW Monday night. After all, Jarrett does have an extensive resume as a wrestling promoter and has worked with WWE in the past. On top of all this, it wasn't too long ago that Jarrett came to Stamford to meet with Mr. McMahon. What were they really talking about? Oleg Prudius? We don't think so.

Paul Heyman
Paul Heyman's track record speaks for itself. Not only did he bring ECW to national prominence, but he also has served as General Manager for SmackDown in 2003 -- 2004. There's no doubt Heyman can do the job, and do it well.

Sgt. Slaughter
If Mr. McMahon is looking for experience, Sgt. Slaughter is the man. He's been in the sports-entertainment business for more than 30 years. He's a former WWE Champion, and has shown leadership skills in the past as WWE Commissioner. On top of all that, the Sarge is a WWE Hall of Famer. Sounds like General Manager is the only title Slaughter needs to round out his resume.

Chris Jericho
After leaving WWE in August, many thought they would never hear from Y2J again. That has not been the case, however. Since being fired from RAW, Jericho has found a semi-regular home on WWE.com, chiming in on such topics as Taboo Tuesday, Survivor Series predictions and more. Is it time Y2J makes his return to RAW and replace the man that fired him in August?
