Cody and Brandi Rhodes react to The Rhodes Family’s reinstatement

A new day has dawned for The Rhodes Family. Not only did Cody Rhodes & Goldust earn their way back into the WWE fold by defeating The Shield at WWE Battleground, but it couldn’t have come at a better time: The clan’s youngest competitor, Cody, recently married his girlfriend of two years, Brandi Reed, and his new bride was almost as overjoyed at the win as he was.

“Oh my gosh, it was probably the most emotional thing that I have ever seen,” said Brandi, who briefly appeared in WWE under the name Eden Stiles. “I wish I was there, but then again, I would be crying on TV.”

Speaking to WWE.com a couple of days after his reinstatement, Rhodes reinforced the role pride played in pushing the two former Intercontinental Champions to victory over the current tag titleholders.

“At the end of the day, my wife is my biggest fan and I’m her biggest fan, and it would have been uncharacteristic of me to give up after being fired. It would have been unacceptable to her for me to give up after being fired,” said Rhodes. “There was a great sense of pride knowing she was able to watch what happened Sunday and see the right thing happen.”

While Rhodes assured WWE.com that he wasn’t exactly facing destitution (hard times, if you will) had he and his brother failed at Battleground — “It’s not the ‘80s, I’ve paid my taxes” — he did reinforce the notion that the victory’s importance extended far beyond putting food on the table for his family.

“Sunday was the changing of the perception of the Rhodes dynasty,” said Rhodes. “For so long, Dusty Rhodes is the patriarch … he is the man, to stand in his company is difficult enough … [But Battleground] was a showcase, if anything, of not just who Dusty Rhodes was and nostalgia, and not just of what Goldust could do and continue to do, but also what all three of us could do individually when bonded together.

“I’ve said this a few times and I mean it: I don’t know anything about hunting or fishing like my dad does, and I don’t know anything about Dallas Cowboys football like my brother does,” Rhodes continued. “But in that ring, that’s the one thing that bonds us. Each and every one of us can go.”

With the paychecks now flowing in again, Rhodes can now devote his full attention to the familial mission at hand. “We’re looking to build an empire,” he said. “We’re looking to build a Rhodes dynasty. We genuinely mean that and this job is the vessel for it.”

Given all of this, the freshly minted Mrs. Rhodes found it most appropriate of all that her husband was the one who put The Shield to bed at WWE Battleground, executing an emphatic Cross Rhodes on Seth Rollins for the final pin.

“I would have been just as happy to see either Dustin or Cody get the pin, but we are moving into a new generation of Rhodes and Cody put the stamp on it,” said Brandi. “Cody hit the Cross Rhodes in the middle of the ring and got the win for our family. No outside interference, no excuses. I am so proud of my husband.”
