AJ Lee or Charlie Sheen: Who should Daniel Bryan worry about more?

Slick prepares to marry AJ and Daniel Bryan: Raw, July 23, 2012

During their wedding, AJ drops a major announcement on Daniel Bryan.

Well, there were no beatings, expletives or ritualistic sacrifices, and the priest remained blessedly un-Tombstoned (count your blessings, Slick), but let’s be honest: It wouldn’t have been a WWE wedding if the groom didn’t gain at least one mortal enemy before the vows got out of his mouth. That said, it’s safe to say the nuptials of Daniel Bryan and AJ Lee on Raw 1,000 was a resounding success, since Bryan ended up with not one but two new enemies by the time the ceremony reached its ignominious non-ending ( PHOTOS). These things are to be expected when Superstars decide to tie the knot.

That one of Bryan’s newfound foils would end up being Charlie Sheen? Safe to say nobody saw that coming.

Indeed, on a show full of surprises, one of the biggest wasn’t that AJ ditched Daniel Bryan at the altar to assume the mantle of Raw General Manager. It’s that the former World Heavyweight Champion provoked the ire of “Anger Management” star Charlie Sheen by claiming the notorious wild man needed “life management” after Sheen threw a few choice remarks Bryan’s way via Skype during the broadcast ( WATCH). Sheen replied to the bristling Bryan by offering an open challenge of sorts to the “Yes!” man to come seek him out the next time Bryan found himself in Los Angeles.

Potentially unrelated note: SummerSlam is in Los Angeles this year. Hmmm …

In any case, Bryan suddenly finds himself surrounded by enemies on all sides. His most recent opponent, WWE Champion CM Punk, seems to have set his sights elsewhere in terms of an in-ring opponent for the time being. And since nobody’s stepped forward to challenge him in in-ring combat of yet, Bryan will have to keep himself occupied with the looming threat of Sheen, a man who once claimed to have tiger blood and Adonis DNA in his veins, unleashing a flurry of fisticuffs at him when SummerSlam rolls into the City of Angels.

It’s no small threat, strange as it may seem. Bryan is as vicious a competitor as there ever was, but there’s something to be said for provoking a man who once stood screaming from a rooftop with a supermodel on each arm celebrating being fired from the highest rated show on TV (and you thought AJ had issues). This isn’t the first celebrity-Superstar rivalry in WWE history, but it does have the potential to be the most explosive should the animosity between the two come to a head. Bryan, a grappling expert who bases his attacks in technical intricacies, fights with surgical precision. Sheen, though, is a far more unpredictable foil than Shaq, Floyd Mayweather or Andy Kaufman (again: Tiger blood. Supermodels. Rooftops. This really happened). Should he find himself staring Sheen in the face, D-Bry could well and good expect a little more than a scuffle to come his way.

But even if Bryan’s gluten-free tiger blood is enough to keep Bud Fox at bay, the “Yes!” man still has one other X factor he’s got to contend with …

Charlie Sheen says next time Daniel Bryan is in Los Angeles, he'll meet him in the ring: Raw, July 23, 2012

Charlie Sheen sends Daniel Bryan a message and a challenge.

It’s strange to think that AJ, who weighs 90 pounds soaking wet and only six months ago was serving out a term as Bryan’s meek and submissive arm candy, now holds the fate of every Raw Superstar — from John Cena to the Anonymous Raw GM Hornswoggle — since she accepted Mr. McMahon’s offer to become the General Manager of Raw. While we’re pretty sure most Superstars have nothing to fear from the new boss, Bryan is a different story.

During his reign as World Heavyweight Champion earlier this year, Bryan treated AJ less like a girlfriend and more like a pawn, manipulating her to suit his own needs and occasionally serving her up as cannon fodder for larger Superstars (read: Big Show) who were gaining too much momentum in their pursuit of Bryan’s title. He was even worse after breaking up with her, attempting to get back in her good graces so he might have a better shot at relieving CM Punk of the WWE Title. Again, his plans failed, but given all his scheming and mind games, it’s easy to see how AJ came out of the whole ordeal a bit … quirkier than she was in the first place.

And AJ clearly doesn’t have a problem being vindictive at this point. She’s already put Bryan through a table, who’s to say she won’t base her entire tenure as GM around making her ex’s life miserable (yes, AJ is now living out the revenge fantasy of every jilted lover ever)? Apart from seeing Daniel Bryan-Kane Punjabi Prison Matches every other week (please make this happen, AJ), she holds the power of office high over Bryan’s head, and there’s an incredibly strong chance she’ll exploit every loophole available to put Bryan through the proverbial gauntlet, week in and week out, until her vengeance is complete.

Or, you know, she could just declare that Daniel Bryan will have to face Charlie Sheen in an Extreme Rules Match at SummerSlam.

Either way, really, everyone is #winning!
