Lilian Garcia will rock MetLife Stadium on Sept. 30
WrestleMania 29 might not be until April 7, 2013, but WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia is ready to rock MetLife Stadium a few months earlier. The SmackDown songstress will perform during the New York Jets’ halftime show on Sept. 30, when Gang Green battles the San Francisco 49ers.
“When I got the call, I nearly dropped the phone,” Garcia told WWE.com, thinking back on when the Jets told her the good news. Garcia was already scheduled to perform the national anthem — as she has done at Jets games seven times prior — but this marks the first time she will perform at an NFL halftime show. “The Jets want me to do a seven-minute show with their Flight Crew Cheerleaders, and I’m going to be rehearsing with them next week.”
Lilian’s halftime performance is in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Day at MetLife Stadium, which is part of the NFL’s recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
“Being Latina, this is a huge honor for me,” Garcia said with a smile. “It’s just really, really exciting to be part of this. It’s very surreal.”
“Surreal” seems to be a great way to describe Lilian’s life for the past few months. Last December, the versatile Diva returned to WWE as a full-time ring announcer after a more than two-year hiatus. Additionally, on top of her announcing duties and hectic travel schedule, Lilian has kept busy on the music front, releasing a six-song extended play (EP) follow-up to her 2007 premiere album, “¡Quiero Vivir!” The EP is titled “My Time,” and was released on Aug. 19 — coincidentally sharing the date with SummerSlam as well as Lilian’s birthday. But the coincidences don’t end there — Lilian’s first performance since that EP’s release just so happens to be at the very same venue as next year’s WrestleMania. To say that Lilian’s WWE and musical careers are entwined as of late would be an understatement. ( LILIAN GARCIA PHOTOS AND VIDEOS)
“It’s almost like it was supposed to happen,” Lilian said of her halftime show at the East Rutherford, N.J. venue that will play host to The Showcase of the Immortals. “To be performing at MetLife Stadium, out of all the buildings and all of the stadiums I could be performing at — especially my first performance coming off of my EP being released — it’s magical. The Jets fans are great, too, and there are a lot of WWE Universe members within the Jets community.”

Jets fans and WWE Universe members alike can look forward to Garcia performing a medley of songs from “My Time,” in addition to what she called a “little surprise” for her fans.
“I can envision it in my head already,” Lilian said. “It’s going to be an amazing day.”
