Hot summer in Jersey
In front of a crowd of more than 20,000 WWE fanatics at a Raw live event in East Rutherford, N.J. Thursday night, legendary ring announcer Howard Finkel revealed that SummerSlam will return to the Continental Airlines Arena on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007.
For the first time in more than 10 years, WWE's summer extravaganza comes back to New Jersey as the Garden State is invaded by Raw, SmackDown and ECW in just eight short months.
Tickets for the 20th edition of SummerSlam go on sale Saturday, Dec. 30 at noon, but minutes after the announcement was made, some ravenous WWE fans swarmed Continental Airlines Arena officials for an earlier opportunity to obtain the hottest ticket of the summer.
With a replica WWE Championship spinner belt in tow, Roberto Lozada of Patterson, N.J. was anxiously seeking seats for SummerSlam following The Fink's announcement.
"It's the first time in 10 years that they've held a pay-per-view event like SummerSlam here in New Jersey," Lozada told WWE.com. "Hopefully, I'll get some tickets. I'm just anxious to bring out the family and have a good time [on Aug. 26]."
Some WWE live event first-timers in East Rutherford were so amazed by the action of Raw that they became instantly hooked and most eager for WWE's return.
"I hope I can get tickets for SummerSlam; I know they're going to be hard to get," claimed ecstatic Jersey native Stacey Panebianco. "This was my first time bringing my young son to a WWE show and we had such a good time tonight. I'm looking forward to WWE coming back to New Jersey this summer."
The last time WWE came to the Continental Airlines Arena for SummerSlam, Shawn Michaels helped Bret "Hit Man" Hart defeat Undertaker for the WWE Championship and Mick Foley leapt from the top of a steel structure onto Triple H in one of the most memorable Steel Cage Matches in WWE history.
What will SummerSlam bring to New Jersey in 2007? Mark your calendars and find out live on pay-per-view on Aug. 26.
