Tigers Granderson looks toward WrestleMania 23

For the first time since 1984, the Detroit Tigers will represent the American League in the World Series. But, the fall classic isn't the only thing on the mind of Tigers leadoff hitter Curtis Granderson. The young center fielder told WWE.com that he can't wait for WrestleMania 23 to come to the Motor City.

"I'm a huge WWE fan," said an enthusiastic Granderson. "When I was in college I would watch every week. We would find a dorm room to pile into and we'd all watch the show. Now that I'm playing baseball, it can be hard on Monday nights but I do my best to watch every week."

Granderson cites D-X, the Ultimate Warrior and WWE Hall of Famer Junkyard Dog as some of his favorites. But above all, Curtis' loyalty lies in the hands of SmackDown's ruler and World Heavyweight Champion King Booker.

"I would have to say that I am one of the King's loyal subjects," remarked Granderson.

At Cyber Sunday, Granderson's King will be involved in the first ever Champion of Champions Match in which he will represent SmackDown as the World Heavyweight Champion when he takes on WWE champ John Cena and ECW champ Big Show. As part of the interaction of Cyber Sunday, the fans will vote on which Championship will be up for grabs. Granderson has already made his pick.

"I'm voting to put Cena's Championship on the line," said Granderson. "I think the WWE Championship is the most prestigious in the WWE, so it should be the one defended in this match."

The Tigers outfielder has never been to a WWE event, but he was one date in particular circled on his calendar for his WWE live event debut.

"I know that WrestleMania 23 is coming to Detroit," said an excited Granderson. "I've seen billboards and signs all over the place. Right now, we're (the Tigers) still going strong, but when baseball season ends, WrestleMania will be the talk of the town. Next year, our season starts on April 2, and WrestleMania is April 1, so the schedules work out nicely. I definitely plan to be there."

Granderson and the Tigers will begin their quest for baseball's richest prize when the World Series begins in Motown on Saturday night. But on November 5, Curtis and the rest of the WWE fans will be watching closely when Cyber Sunday comes to pay-per-view.
