Matt Striker's Wrestling Lesson of the Week for 7/24/07

What to discuss? Hmm.... Paul Orndorff? No... umm... Paul Jones? Nah.... errr… Paul Roma?

No!!!  I've got it!

How about ...WOMEN!?!?

Ernest Hemingway once wrote "God lives in the left eye of a woman. …" if that is indeed the case, then there is only one entity that can reside in the right eye.

Women are a crafty creature. They are beautiful in their form and their effervescence. They are powerful and graceful. Some are wise, some are breathtaking.

Women can take the harshest words from your mouth and make them sound like a sonnet.

Yet, to "upgrade" would imply there is something more advanced, more "now," more superior.

If you have reached the pinnacle -- even if the pinnacle has rejected you -- you CANNOT upgrade, you can only move laterally (which means side to side).

With that in mind, little ones, lets examine the PINNACLE OF WOMEN'S TAG TEAM WRESTLING -- coming in for this week's lesson, light years ahead of their time -- THE JUMPING BOMB ANGELS!!!

Tateno & Yamazaki were two female, Japanese wrestlers who brought tag team wrestling -- not just women's, but all of tag team wrestling -- to a new height.

Exposing the American WWE fans to a Japanese style they had never seen before, the Angels won over fans with grace and beauty, in and out of the ring.

The word "classic" is usually reserved for Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Triple H matches.

Even the epitome of women's wrestling, Fabulous Moolah has engaged in some classics, but rarely are women's matches given the exposure, credit or consideration.

There are a few athletes that blur the line between "diva" and women's wrestler today, BUT The Jumping Bomb Angels had countless classic matches that are mentioned by only the most astute wrestling historians.

It is a shame that you do not know!!!

WWE fans went wild on an electric wave when the Angels wrestled the Women's Tag Team Title (yes, it actually existed!!) away from the Glamour Girls (Leilani Kai and Judy Martin, EXCELLENT female wrestlers of the day) with Jimmy "Mouth of the South" Hart in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match!!

Yes!!  A 2-out-of-3 Falls classic!!

The Angels would later feud with THE MOST DOMINANT women's tag team ever -- the Road Warriors/ Legion of Doom-esque BULL NAKANO and DUMP MATSUMOTO. (Yes, they had GREAT names, too!)

When you watch women's wrestling today, you marvel at the beauty, at the athleticism and at the strange feeling that we all get when we see two women fight.

Of course, pioneers such as Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young, Mildred Burke (no relation to Elijah) and Judy Grable paved the way for women's wrestling, but if you want to see something entirely different, something not seen before or since, check out the Jumping Bomb Angels! Have I ever let you down before? Remember, you cannot get higher than me; enjoy your lateral movement.

Until next time, I am Matt Striker and I am...

BEAUTIFUL.

Next to the wound, what women make best is the bandage.
--Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly

If women didn't exist, all the money in the world would have no meaning.
-- A. Onassis
(Think about this one.)

It is only rarely that one can see in a little boy the promise of a man, but one can almost always see, in a little girl, the threat of a woman.
