J.R.'s Superstars of the Week - John Cena and Shawn Michaels

J.R.'s Superstars of the Week - John Cena and Shawn Michaels

Greetings from under the 200X, black Resistol hat from your BBQ lovin', beef jerky eatin' resident Sooner, who is still battling jet lag but greatly anticipating this Sunday's Backlash pay-per-view, and then on to Monday Night Raw in Nashville, Tenn.

My three-day tour abroad that turned into 11 days was still a good time, even though I did not get to spend as much time in Milan and Italy in general as I would have liked. But, I more than made up for it with seven days in London. I am a firm believer that one can have fun wherever one is, if that is the goal. Prison might be a different matter, but I don't plan on any extended stays being incarcerated. I love the pubs in the UK but, hell, I love the bars in the USA, so that is not a breaking news story. Of course, only drink in moderation and NEVER drink and drive.

I am looking forward to the NFL draft Saturday, as always. I will be glued to the TV keeping an eye on where my Sooner guys go, especially Adrian Peterson who is the top running back in the draft. The NFL Draft is one of my favorite events on TV this time of the year, which baffles Mrs. J.R. Come to think of it, several things I do baffle the Mrs. The only downside of the draft is the endless talking that some talking heads do, who are not as good doing live TV as they are doing recorded pieces.

There sure was a great deal of WWE fans stuck in the DFW Airport Tuesday night as I was attempting to get home from London. That journey was well over 20 hours in total thanks to bad weather in the Dallas area. I essentially did a Q & A in the D concourse. A fair amount of the folks I visited with during our flight delays are buying our beef jerky, as evidenced by the fact we just had to order 25,000 more labels for the product. Many of them are also regular visitors to www.jrsbarbq.com, which is greatly appreciated.

Thursday I had a blast in Nashville doing media appearances for this Monday's Raw event at the Nashville Arena after a two-year absence from Music City. The folks in Nashville are some of the friendliest ones you will find anywhere, and I had some delicious "Q" in downtown Nashville at Jack's BBQ, right across the street from the Ernest Tubb Record Shop, and next door to Tootsie's Bar, both Nashville landmarks.

How does one pick a Raw Superstar of the Week without it being John Cena and Shawn Michaels? Not even the nerdiest of wrestling geeks could disagree with that choice. Well they could, but it would further prove their lack of intellect when it comes to sports-entertainment.

Cena and HBK had a helluva contest that lasted damn near an hour Monday night. It was one of the most entertaining and fun matches I have had the privilege of calling in a long time. It might have arguably been better than their match at WrestleMania 23, which certainly wasn't shabby. My hat is off to both these two athletes for a magnificent match, and for giving the fans, more than their money's worth. The HBK-Cena was the best match on free TV in years for my money.

Stone Cold is making the rounds promoting The Condemned, which opens Friday. I have seen The Condemned twice, and highly recommend you see it this weekend, or at your earliest convenience.  As many of you know, I am not too unbiased when it comes to things having to do with Stone Cold Steve Austin. However, the way for ‘Ol J.R. to  P.O. the Texas Rattlesnake would be for me to shill for his movie and to say it was worth seeing when it wasn't.

I have been nailed by the Rattlesnake's right hand enough times to know that I would prefer to avoid that experience, which is why I am being totally honest when I tell you that all WWE fans and -- especially Austin fans -- will thoroughly enjoy this WWE Films presentation starring my friend Stone Cold Steve Austin. Steve called me a day or two ago, and is working really hard promoting this film. He is looking forward to perhaps heading to our place in Norman, Okla., when J.R.'s BBQ opens in June.

I hope you enjoy Backlash, and I am curious to see how the Fatal Four Way for the WWE Championship concludes. A new champ could easily be crowned, which means it probably won't happen, as I am usually wrong. However, I will swear off BBQ for a few days if we don't see a changing of someone's gold come this Sunday.

Have a great weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone in Atlanta and Nashville.
