J.R.'s Superstar of the Week - Randy Orton
Greetings from under the black, 200X Resistol hat from your resident barbecue-lovin' Okie who enjoyed my 24 hours in the United Kingdom for Monday Night Raw as we continue to count down the days until Cyber Sunday on pay-per-view.
Jerry "The King" Lawler and I will be out in L.A. this Friday for the big electronic show in town representing THQ who has developed the awesome WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 Nintendo game. I had more fun working on this video game project than any other I can recall, and I am sure all you "gamers" will love playing this game. The storyline elements are unique and offer many options for you to enjoy. This video game is a must-have for sure.
For those of you in the area, Raw emanates from Omaha, Nebr., on Monday, and you may see ‘Ol J.R. around town this weekend. I am flying into Omaha on Friday after the THQ function in Los Angeles to prepare for Monday's Raw and to attend the Oklahoma vs. Iowa State football game in nearby Ames, Iowa Saturday which will be broadcast on Fox Sports at 11:30 a.m. CT. Be sure and say "howdy" if we bump into each other. I'll be the stocky guy in the black hat (unless it is too windy for my choice of head gear).
The WWE fans continue to flock to J.R.'s Family Bar-B-Q Restaurant in Norman, Okla., from all over the world. We have had guests dine with us from the U.K., Germany, Canada, and dozens of states. We are grateful for all your support, and it makes one feel great to know that so many of you enjoy our eatery, our sauces and our beef jerky. By the way, our sauces are available here on WWE.com at WWEShop and can be shipped worldwide.
In November, on WWE 24/7, there will be some features originating from our restaurant in Norman, where I discuss many wrestling greats who played football in college and professionally before donning the wrestling tights. I hope you will make a point of checking it out. Plus, our next Legends' Roundtable will soon be airing on WWE 24/7, featuring an esteemed panel that includes Hall of Famer Pat Patterson, Freebird Michael Hayes, the Human Suplex Machine, Tazz, the Hardcore Legend himself, Mick Foley, Jerry Mathers as the Beaver (only kidding) and yours truly as the moderator.
This week's Raw Superstar of the Week is a close call between the lovely and talented WWE Champion Randy Orton and the ill-tempered and government mule tough Hardcore Holly. Orton wrestled in three big-time bouts on Monday night, which takes a helluva lot of skill while the "grizzled veteran" Holly beat impressive up-and-comer Cody Rhodes for a third consecutive time.
The nod goes to Orton, who will receive lovely parting gifts from www.jrsbarbq.com for his efforts as our Jalapeño Honey Mustard makes a great base for Randy's favorite facial. (And we all know how the handsome, young, third-generation star loves to care for his attractive features.)
I received an e-mail from a fan on our Bar-B-Q site who asked if the voting for Cyber Sunday was "rigged" (his words not mine). That seems like a "Pet Coon" goofy question to me. I think the FCC or some other United States Government entity would frown on the WWE for misleading the public if the voting were not on the up and up. So yes, the voting is absolutely legit, and your vote does count and you can vote often. Some fans feel that HBK will be the front-runner to face Orton for the WWE Championship, and I can't disagree. However, that is entirely up to you. If you want Jeff Hardy or Mr. Kennedy to face the new champion, then simply go elsewhere on this very site and cast your vote. Remember your opinion won't count if you don't vote. That sounds simple enough to me. Perhaps the suits that run this Web site will include a link to the poll in this very column.
(Editor's Note: J.R., your wish is our command. Courtesy of one "suit" -- WWE fans, the choice is yours. To determine all the matchups at Cyber Sunday, click here. Vote now and vote often.)
Why is Maria still hanging around Santino Marella? Is love really blind? People have been telling Mrs. J.R. that for years. Some of us simply outpunt our coverage in life.
Mr. Kennedy and Randy Orton both seemed to have their fair share of fan support during their match Monday night. The old days of one wrestler getting all the cheers and his opponent getting all the jeers are history. Is that bad? Not in my book.
Good thing Umaga's opponent wasn't wearing white tights Monday night because the Samoan Bulldozer beat the, how do I say this, the "stuffing" out of the young lad from the U.K. Perhaps that new, nifty tattoo on Umaga's back has motivated Triple H's most dominate adversary. I expect to see The Game back on Raw Monday night, so "business may pick up" in Omaha for "U-Mang-A," as our esteemed Raw GM William Regal would say.
I found irony in what Jillian Hall was saying on Raw about Lilian Garcia. Jillian said Lilian was using an enhanced version of one of her songs off Lilian's new CD. Enhanced, huh? Looking at various aspects of the talented Jillian's anatomy (just because I'm on a diet doesn't mean I can't look at the menu), one could make the argument that perhaps, just perhaps, Jillian has had the benefit of "enhancements" -- not that there is any thing wrong with that. But then again, that's only speculation, and I certainly could be wrong.
Candice Michelle challenging the Glamazon, Beth Phoenix on Monday in Omaha for the WWE Women's Championship should be a Nebraska, corn- fed delight, to say the least. Perhaps the Huskers will send their embattled football coach (for now) Bill Callahan to officiate as he may we looking for work sooner than later if the Husker faithful have their way. I know "The King" would love to don the stripped shirt to referee this title match.
Does it seem that perhaps Jonathan Coachman is watching too much of the Cartoon Network while attempting to devise a plan to capture Mr. McMahon's illegitimate son Hornswoggle McMahon? The plan we all saw attempted on Monday never worked on the Road Runner when Wile E. Coyote attempted it, either.
I admire Cody Rhodes' convictions and desire to compete, but perhaps young Master Rhodes should saddle another horse to ride and leave the somewhat edgy and gnarly Hardcore Holly be. However, I don't think Cody will call it quits on this challenge.
HBK vs. Orton had the great crowd in Birmingham, England rocking on Monday night, and then all hell broke loose when Kennedy and the "Rainbow-haired Warrior" made their presence felt. Monday's Main Event in Omaha will be a "beaut" when HBK & Jeff face Orton & Kennedy in a tag team attraction. I'm gonna like this one, as I am sure you will, too.
Don't forget to head to the polls and vote for Cyber Sunday and to count your many blessings. Be well, everyone.
