The NXT Interview: Michael Tarver

The NXT Interview: Michael Tarver

The first seven weeks of competition haven't exactly been easy for NXT Rookie Michael Tarver. He ranked seventh in the WWE Pros' Poll and even worse, eighth, in the WWE.com poll of the WWE Universe. To top it off, he has five losses and zero wins. But Tarver says the WWE Universe has yet to see him shine. The confident NXT Rookie shows no signs of wavering and is ready to prove himself to the WWE Pros and the WWE Universe. Get ready to expect the unexpected.

WWE.com: You've had some time to think about the results of the Pros' Poll and the WWE.com Poll, where you placed seventh and eighth, respectively. What are your thoughts now about your rankings?
TARVER:
I feel like I'm ranked where I'm supposed to be ranked. Part of my frustration in WWE NXT is that I haven't gotten the same opportunities that some of the other NXT Rookies have. I feel like I'm more talented, which makes me more dangerous than the other NXT Rookies because the world doesn't know me yet. Therefore, if I had gotten the same opportunities I would be No. 1. Otherwise, I'm ranked exactly where I'm supposed to be based on what I've been given.

WWE.com: What do you plan to do to prove to the WWE Pros and the WWE Universe that you should move up in the Rookie Rankings?
TARVER:
Be unpredictable. Be extremely unpredictable. The reason being is that the things in particular people are most afraid of is what they don't know. The reason that people are afraid of what they don't know is that they can't predict it. And that's exactly what I plan to be … unpredictable.

WWE.com: What are your thoughts on being disqualified from the Keg Carry Challenge last Tuesday on WWE NXT?
TARVER:
They didn't make any rules based on the fact that the NXT Rookies before me had on too much baby oil. The reason that I dropped the keg is because there was too much baby oil on the keg and I couldn't get a good grip. And I thought that it was extremely unfair for NXT host Matt Striker to disqualify me considering the fact that Skip Sheffield had the keg on his shoulder and had it covered in baby oil so I couldn't carry it.

WWE.com: How has your relationship with your WWE Pro, Carlito, been lately?
TARVER:
It's pretty much been consistent since the day that I met him on the debut of WWE NXT. We don't have a lot of communication but our communication is effective. He always says what he needs to say. He gives me instructions. We go to the ring, do the best that we can to take care of business. But throughout all of the matches that I've been able to watch him in, whether he won or lost, I've learned one thing -- he always finds a way to live to fight another day.

WWE.com: So your relationship is working out OK? Would you trade in Carlito for another WWE Pro if you could?
TARVER:
I wouldn't say that things have been working out all right because of where I'm ranked, but I wouldn't trade him in for another WWE Pro. As soon as I get an opportunity, things are going to change for both of us.

WWE.com: We know the Pros' Poll isn't solely based on win-loss records, but you're 0-5, and Daniel Bryan, who is ranked No. 1, is 0-7. Why do you think he is on top even though he's winless?
TARVER:
During the first week of WWE NXT, he had a match against the World Heavyweight Champion, and that says it all. If you have a match against the World Champion, it doesn't matter if you win or lose if part of the criteria is strength of the opponent. Having a match with a World Champion trumps everything, and I have not had the same opportunities. But if I did, I think I would have had a much different result, because I'm completely different from Daniel Bryan.

WWE.com: Who is your biggest competition on WWE NXT?
TARVER:
I would say that my biggest competition on WWE NXT up to this point has been myself. The reason why is because I have allowed myself to be restrained and I've allowed myself to be predictable and follow the rules. Last week when I took the mic from Matt Striker, that was the start of a lot more of what's to come. And my plan is I'm coming to go down on fire, if I'm gonna go down. Basically that's how I plan on changing things.

WWE.com: Who are you looking forward to facing next?
TARVER:
In all honesty it doesn't matter who it is, WWE Pro or NXT Rookie, I'm just looking for an example.

WWE.com: What's the story behind the T-shirts you've been wearing on WWE NXT lately?
TARVER:
Well I have a few T-shirts. But the new one has a "T" on the front. And I think that people assume that the "T" stands for "Tarver," but the "T" actually stands for "Takeover." The other T-shirt I wore said "RUN NXT" like a RUN DMC T-shirt. In the same spirit as the shirt with the "T" for "Takeover," my plan is to takeover until I "RUN NXT." Both shirts are connected and there will be more to come.

WWE.com: Do you have any final messages for the WWE Universe?
TARVER:
Yes. Michael Tarver will destroy everything until he becomes the champion, whether they like it or not.
