NXT Champion Drew McIntyre battles Roderick Strong for the title this Wednesday

Drew McIntyre vs. Roderick Strong

NXT Champion Drew McIntyre is embroiled in a war with unruly invaders Adam Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly, but that doesn’t mean the big Scot’s obligations as champion are taking a break.

Rather, McIntyre has his next title defense lined up for this Wednesday, and it’s against one of the top threats in all of NXT: Roderick Strong.

NXT General Manager William Regal granted the title opportunity, which will stream exclusively on WWE Network, as a result of Strong’s victory against former titleholder Bobby Roode in a grudge match last month.

McIntyre and Strong have clashed inside the yellow ropes once before, on Aug. 16, but that wild, back-and-forth encounter ended without a clear winner, as The Glorious One inserted himself into the proceedings and attacked both Superstars.

Since then, McIntyre completed his climb to the top of the NXT mountain, claiming the NXT Championship from Roode at TakeOver: Brooklyn III. His match against Strong represents McIntyre’s first title defense on WWE Network.

The intriguing battle pits two of NXT’s hardest hitters against each other. In one corner stands the deceptively gigantic champion, an absurdly agile and powerful brawler who has thrashed everyone in his way since signing with NXT earlier this year. Across the ring will be the tenacious Messiah of the Backbreaker, a veteran of nearly 20 years who once came within sniffing distance of winning the title.

Which Superstar will stand tall with the championship in hand when the dust settles? Don’t miss out when this huge NXT Title Match streams this Wednesday, exclusively on the award-winning WWE Network.
