Curtis Axel def. R-Truth
CLEVELAND — The Social Outcasts’ Curtis Axel stunned the WWE Universe at WWE Fastlane 2016 by defeating R-Truth — an unintended consequence of Goldust trying to recruit Truth as a tag team partner.
The Social Outcasts made their way to the ring led by Heath Slater, determined to go viral on the Road to WrestleMania, but before they could accomplish that impressive feat, Curtis Axel had to overcome a challenge in the form of former United States and WWE Tag Team Champion R-Truth.
As the match got underway, Axel’s Social Outcast cohorts — Slater, Bo Dallas and Adam Rose — made their presence felt at ringside. Attempting to rile up the WWE Universe and distract R-Truth, the entourage allowed Axel to take advantage of the bout.
However, as The Social Outcasts’ antics pressed on, Goldust — who has spent weeks attempting to convince R-Truth to be his tag team partner — made his way to ringside to even the odds. The Bizarre One successfully dismantled The Social Outcasts outside the squared circle, but he inadvertently threw Adam Rose into the ring, diverting R-Truth’s focus. Axel seized the opportunity of the scenario and rolled up the rapping Superstar for the win.
After the match, Goldust attempted to apologize to his prospective partner, but R-Truth left his would-be ally hanging in the middle of the Quicken Loans Arena. Has Goldust’s error guaranteed a potential partnership between the unlikely duo will never happen?
