Brock Lesnar vs. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins

WWE Battleground 2015 Predictions

@JoeyStyles: What can Seth Rollins do to keep the WWE World Heavyweight Championship? Lose by disqualification! If I were Rollins I would punch the official as soon as the bell rang and run like my life depended on it, because it might. If I’m smart enough to have thought of this escape plan, then so is The Architect. WINNER: Brock Lesnar

@HowardFinkel: There’s no doubt in my mind that Seth Rollins has withstood the pressures that come with being at the top of the WWE mountain, and he has done it extremely well. Yet, I feel that The Beast Incarnate is primed like never before. Quite simply put, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship goes to Brock Lesnar. WINNER: Brock Lesnar

Anthony Benigno: You’d think Seth Rollins is a dead man walking, but The Architect isn’t just any old titleholder. He’s the handpicked protégé of Triple H, and lesson No. 1 at The King of Kings’ knee is that there’s always a Plan B. So Rollins will take the all-access tour of Suplex City, but he’ll survive this and keep his title. I have no idea how, but he’ll do it. WINNER: Seth Rollins

Jeff Laboon: Seth Rollins has tried to pin Lesnar three times since Night of Champions 2014. The fourth time is the charm. The Architect will somehow construct a way to leave with his prized championship in a career-defining win. WINNER: Seth Rollins

Bobby Melok: Seth Rollins has shown that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to hang onto his WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However, Brock Lesnar has shown he’s more than capable of doing the same to win it. Though he won’t have a pair of axes during the match, Lesnar’s hands can do just as much damage on the way to grabbing WWE’s top prize. WINNER: Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar: 3, Seth Rollins: 2

United States Champion John Cena vs. Kevin Owens

WWE Battleground 2015 Predictions

@JoeyStyles: Sorry, Cenation members. Unlike recent rivalries, this one is not going to see John Cena win the rubber match and retain the United States Championship. Kevin Owens is not Bray Wyatt. Kevin Owens is not Rusev. Kevin Owens is not a sports-entertainment sideshow who comes to the ring with zombie scarecrows or a tank. Owens is all steak and no sizzle — a grizzled, tough steak that will make John Cena choke in match three of this rivalry knotted at 1-1. WINNER: Kevin Owens

@HowardFinkel: Folks, if you haven’t figured it out yet, Kevin Owens is the real deal! He was smart to remove himself from the Raw Triple Threat Match on Monday — he has a guaranteed title match at Battleground! I expect another grueling encounter between these arch-rivals, with Owens becoming the new United States Champion in the process. WINNER: Kevin Owens

Anthony Benigno: If you asked me this after Elimination Chamber, I would have told you Owens in a heartbeat. But KO’s suffered two significant falls since then — one to Cena in their rematch, and one to Finn Bálor in Japan that cost him his NXT Championship. Now, it’s make-or-break for the big brawler. It’s a coin flip, but in the biggest fight of his life, I’ve got KO for all the marbles. Win, Owens, win. WINNER: Kevin Owens

Jeff Laboon: Losing the NXT Championship did some damage to Kevin Owens’ psyche, but John Cena’s recent battles against Cesaro and Rusev have softened him up. Owens will be much more rested and will win this rubber match because of it. WINNER: Kevin Owens

Bobby Melok: John Cena has been through the wringer twice with Kevin Owens. He’s tried to play fair and show respect to the former NXT Champion, only to be left in a heap after the bell. Expect a different John Cena to show up at WWE Battleground and show the upstart what it takes to stay on top in WWE. WINNER: John Cena

Kevin Owens: 4, John Cena: 1

WWE Tag Team Champions The Prime Time Players vs. The New Day

WWE Battleground 2015 Predictions

@JoeyStyles: I’ve been a huge fan of The PTP from day one. Titus O’Neil & Darren Young are as entertaining on the mic as they are athletic in the ring. That said, The New Day have to redeem themselves after being destroyed by Brock Lesnar in Tokyo. With the three-on-two advantage, I expect the power of positivity to give the new champions something to clap about. WINNERS: The New Day

@HowardFinkel: The more I see Titus O’Neil & Darren Young in action, the more I believe these two did the right thing in reuniting. I suspect that The New Day will use the non in-ring member of their group to their optimum effort this Sunday. But Young and O’Neil have had enough encounters against the challengers that they should be able to circumvent whatever The New Day throws at them and emerge victorious. WINNERS: The Prime Time Players

Anthony Benigno: MJ’s Secret Stuff couldn’t have revitalized The Prime Time Players more than the WWE Tag Team Titles have. PTP will have all that million-dollar momentum as the curtain rises on WWE Battleground. They’ve beaten The New Day in almost every permutation of a match between their members since winning the titles, which means Kofi Kingston, Big E & Xavier Woods have learned just how to beat them. New! Day wins! New! Day wins! WINNERS: The New Day

Jeff Laboon: Darren Young & Titus O’Neil are on another level. For a team that has been scratching and clawing since NXT Redemption — long before NXT was the NXT we know now — it’s fun to watch them showcase their tremendous chemistry and complementary styles. WINNERS: Prime Time Players

Bobby Melok: Though the champions have found allies in Neville and The Lucha Dragons in recent weeks, they’ll be at a disadvantage when they face The New Day. Look for the power of positivity to lead to a second reign as WWE Tag Team Champions. WINNERS: The New Day

The New Day: 3, The Prime Time Players: 2

Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt

WWE Battleground 2015 Predictions

@JoeyStyles: The ring isn’t going to be able to contain the explosive confrontation between Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt. My prediction for this match is a No Contest. WINNER: No Contest

@HowardFinkel: I look for this match to be closely contested. Wyatt is masterful at getting inside the head of his opponents, but, by and large, Reigns has been swift to react when faced with that adversity from the master manipulator. How appropriate that this event is called Battleground — no event name better applies to this match. I look for Wyatt to eke out a hard-earned win. WINNER: Bray Wyatt

Anthony Benigno: Superstars usually attempt to defeat Roman Reigns by dismantling his body. Bray Wyatt hit The Big Dog where body armor can’t protect him: His mind. Reigns hasn’t been the same guy since, and only the presence of Dean Ambrose as bait has given him a leg up on The New Face of Fear. In one-on-one combat, Reigns hits harder than Wyatt for sure. But the damage has already been done where it counts. WINNER: Bray Wyatt

Jeff Laboon: Bray Wyatt is so destructive in the ring that he doesn’t need to rely on mind games for an advantage. But it certainly doesn’t hurt. Roman Reigns is as tough as they come, but Wyatt may have already won before the bell even sounded. WINNER: Bray Wyatt

Bobby Melok: Bray Wyatt may have the upper hand when it comes to mind games, but when things turn physical at WWE Battleground, it will be Roman Reigns who comes out on top. Despite Bray’s physical in-ring style, The Big Dog will be motivated to make The Eater of Worlds chow down on his words. WINNER: Roman Reigns

Bray Wyatt: 3, Roman Reigns: 1, None: 1

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

WWE Battleground 2015 Predictions

@JoeyStyles: Knowing that he can have a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match whenever he damn well pleases, I expect The Celtic Warrior to walk away and take a loss by intentional count-out when he senses that an RKO is coming “outta nowhere.” WINNER: Randy Orton

@HowardFinkel: I have been a big advocate of The Celtic Warrior since he returned to WWE with a new attitude and look. And winning the Money in the Bank contract was a huge feather in the Irishman’s cap! But that was then and this is now. This match could go either way, but I feel that The Viper will be a mere three seconds better than Sheamus this Sunday. WINNER: Randy Orton

Anthony Benigno: Randy Orton’s brief leave of absence opened the door for Sheamus to run rampant, and The Apex Predator’s return has Mr. Money in the Bank appropriately shook. The Celtic Warrior was made a fool on Raw by Orton’s mocking RKO, which means he’ll have a grudge going into their Battleground brawl. And, as we all know, an angry Sheamus is the most effective Sheamus. WINNER: Sheamus

Jeff Laboon: Randy Orton is the most vindictive Superstar of all time. Every time Orton thinks about Sheamus, he thinks about how that Money in the Bank contract should travel with him. WINNER: Randy Orton

Bobby Melok: Don’t expect too many headlocks and hip-tosses when The Viper and The Celtic Warrior enter the ring. An all-out brawl favors Sheamus, so look for Mr. Money in the Bank to be victorious, despite Orton’s home field advantage in St. Louis. WINNER: Sheamus

Randy Orton: 3, Sheamus: 2

R-Truth vs. King Barrett (Kickoff Match)

WWE Battleground 2015 Predictions

@JoeyStyles: Barrett and Truth have been trading wins and losses since the battling Brit won the crown and scepter. I’m not predicting so much as I am rooting for Truth to win because “King What’s Up?” carrying a plunger and wearing a paper Burger King crown is a Whopper of an entertaining sight. Yep. I just wrote that. WINNER: R-Truth

@HowardFinkel: They say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Not in this case. King Barrett has been embarrassed and humiliated plenty by R-Truth, both in and out of the ring, for the better part of the last month. I think that with the crown going to the victor of this bout, Barrett will show perseverance in disposing of R-Truth, and relegate him to nothing more than a court jester. WINNER: King Barrett

Anthony Benigno: The War of Two Kings comes to its conclusion at Battleground, and not a moment too soon if you’re King Barrett. For weeks now, R-Truth — sorry, “King What’s Up” — has been the bearer of bad news for His Grace, upending him at almost every turn and cutting the King off at the knees right as his momentum begins to build. Putting his crown up for grabs is what Barrett needed to do to get Truth out of his hair, so expect him to capitalize on the opportunity in any way possible. After all, the King can do as he likes. WINNER: R-Truth

Jeff Laboon: King Barrett is an imposing figure. His various battle scars tell his brutal journey to get to WWE. As funny as R-Truth can be, Barrett takes “King What’s Up” as a personal insult to his accomplishments, so he’ll be out for blood Sunday. WINNER: King Barrett

Bobby Melok: WWE’s game of thrones comes to a close on the Battleground Kickoff. Though Barrett will no doubt look to take off R-Truth’s head with his Royal Bull Hammer, the eccentric “King What’s Up” may be ready to counter any telegraphed swings of the proverbial executioner’s axe. The WWE Universe may be hailing a new king come Sunday night. WINNER: R-Truth

R-Truth: 3, King Barrett 2
