Meet Andy Shepherd, ring announcer for WWE’s United Kingdom Championship Tournament
Stepping foot into a WWE ring will be a huge moment not only for the 16 competitors in the United Kingdom Championship Tournament, but also for Andy Shepherd, the ring announcer for the two-night tournament taking place this weekend on WWE Network
“To be a part of this is a dream come true,” he told WWE.com.
Shepherd, a London native, is a producer and presenter, whose work has been seen on Dave, Channel 5, Spike TV and more. After getting his start in TV during a host search for children’s show Blue Peter, Shepherd went on to work with SBTV and present a variety of programming, including Red Bull Cliff Diving, BAMMA mixed martial arts, and fights featuring champion boxer David Haye.
For the Londoner, however, working with WWE has always been a goal, having grown up a fan of the ring exploits of Superstars like Shawn Michaels.
“’Obsessed’ would be the word,” Shepherd said. “Every birthday, I got tickets. I remember my mom on the phone trying to get seats on the aisle so I could be close to the wrestlers.”
He often wondered if the chance to be a part of the WWE family would ever materialize. “Being here in the U.K., I never thought there would be an opportunity to be with WWE,” he said. “Of course, there are local promotions here doing fantastic work, but to be with the people you’ve watched on TV and idolized is a dream.”
Shepherd realizes that his squared-circle fantasies may have been a bit different than most British children. It makes his coming true that much sweeter.
“I think a lot of kids dream of signing with Manchester United or a big football team,” he explained. “I was signing my contract with WWE and it was such a big moment for me. Wow.”
