Andre Chase def. Guru Raaj in an NXT Breakout Tournament Qualifying Match

The NXT Breakout Tournament took center stage on 205 Live, and if the first bout between Guru Raaj and Andre Chase is any indication to how the competition will unfold, the WWE Universe should be in for a treat.

Raaj, who narrowly lost to Finn Bálor and earned The Prince’s respect during an epic barnburner at Superstar Spectacle in January, seemed a step quicker than his foe in the early goings, as he leveled Raaj with a ring-rattling hip toss and a takedown.

Chase, however, took control by stomping on Raaj’s foot and raining down right hands before trash-talking the WWE Universe inside the Capitol Wrestling Center.

And after claiming that he should have been the “No. 1 seed in the tournament,” Chase backed up his bluster by leaping from the apron back into the ring to land a modified stunner, followed up with a suplex for the victory.

Joe Gacy def. Desmond Troy in an NXT Breakout Tournament Qualifying Match

205 Live’s main event featured a distinct clash of styles, as Desmond Troy looked to employ his decorated amateur background to turn the bout into a mat-grappling classic, while Joe Gacy brought his wild brawling in an attempt to ensure that the high-stakes match be decided in a donnybrook.

The WWE Universe’s allegiance seemed split during the unique collision, and Troy got the upper hand by tattooing his foe with a flying clothesline and a pair of belly-to-belly overhead tosses.

Gacy withstood Troy’s charge, however, and he earned the win by staggering his opponent with a brutal headbutt and a urinage before sealing the win with an explosive clothesline to qualify for the NXT Breakout Tournament.
