"That's cool!": WWE.com catches up with Carlito

The Colon Family speaks after Carlos Colon is inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame: WWE.com Exclusive, April 5, 2014

Carlos Colon speaks about the honor of being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

The annual WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is one of the biggest celebrations in sports-entertainment. It’s also a chance for familiar faces to come back and catch up with friends they haven’t seen in a while. That was the case for Carlito this year. The former Superstar who exuded Caribbean Cool was in The Big Easy to induct his father, Carlos Colon, into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2014. WWE.com got him away from the red carpet gala for a few minutes to get his thoughts on the momentous night.

WWE.COM: What’s it like being here tonight at the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony?

CARLITO: It’s great seeing a lot of old friends that I haven’t seen in a long time, a lot of the boys and people backstage, seeing Mr. McMahon and everyone. It’s good to be back for a minute.

WWE.COM: What does it mean for you to be here tonight, as your father goes into the WWE Hall of Fame?

CARLITO: It’s a great honor. I’m glad that they asked me to do this, that I’m able to stand next to my brother and cousin, and do something that my father deserved a long time ago. I’m very happy for him and for our family. It’s a great moment.

WWE.COM: What do you think people should know about your father?

CARLITO: I know a lot of people in the States won’t be too familiar with him. They should know that thanks to him and his promotion, the stars of today and yesterday had a place to go work and groom themselves by learning a different style. They were able to mature because it was consistent — one or two matches every week. I think that’s his biggest contribution.

WWE.COM: When you put together your induction speech for your father, what was going through your mind?

CARLITO: He has had such a storied career, it writes itself. My main thing is that I don’t want to turn it into a stand-up comedy act and make things about myself. I want to focus on my dad, it’s all about him. The less I’m involved, the better.
