10 things to do in Los Angeles during SummerSlam Week

All eyes will be squarely on SummerSlam when it airs live from the STAPLES Center on Sunday, Aug. 17. But if you’re heading to Los Angeles to celebrate WWE’s Biggest Party of the Summer in person, don’t forget to explore all the many attractions that are unique to the City of Angels.

Check out these recommendations below and for more ideas on what to do when you’re in town, be sure to visit DiscoverLosAngeles.com.

Take a Hollywood Studios Tour at Universal Studios
No city in the world boasts as rich a film history as Tinseltown, and the Hollywood Studios Tour at Universal Studios pulls back the curtain of the world’s largest working movie studio, as well as brings you up-close to the world’s largest 3D experience, Peter Jackson’s “King Kong 360 3D.” Just keep your eyes peeled for The Miz’s “Moneymaker.”

Ride the Ferris Wheel at Santa Monica Pier
We promise this is way more fun than taking a ride in the Cesaro Swing. The iconic Ferris Wheel  located at Santa Monica Pier not only provides a stunning view some 130 feet above ground, but it’s also solar-powered, which would even bring a smile to the face of NXT’s eco-warrior, CJ Parker.

Attend a SummerSlam Panel at Club Nokia
For the first time in SummerSlam history, WWE fans will have a chance to ask questions directly to Superstars and Hall of Famers at the all-new SummerSlam Panel series, held at Club Nokia at L.A. LIVE. Join in the interactive panels, which feature the likes of John Cena, Triple H and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Visit the Getty Center
Looking to add a dash of fine art to your sports-entertainment weekend getaway? Check out the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center, which houses countless exhibits and an expansive collection of photographs, drawings, paintings and more, including Vincent Van Gogh’s “Irises.”

Explore Downtown Los Angeles
You won't have to stray far from the STAPLES Center to see some of downtown Los Angeles’ best hidden treasures. From the historic América Tropical mural to Grand Central Market, which is bursting with local food vendors, there’s plenty of culture and cuisine right around the corner from SummerSlam’s host venue.

Visit Malibu Surfrider Beach
You don’t have to be a surfer to appreciate all that Malibu Surfrider Beach has to offer. Consistently ranked among the world’s best beaches for those who hang 10, Malibu Surfrider Beach has a historic pier from which you can fish, grab a bite or simply sightsee. The site’s so laid back, Rob Van Dam would fit right in.

Hike at Runyon Canyon
If your pre-SummerSlam to-do list includes taking in fresh air, seeing incredible views and stretching your legs, you might want to consider hiking Runyon Canyon, which is a three-mile loop, all-in. While there, you can peep great sight lines of famous L.A. hallmarks, like the Hollywood Sign and Sunset Strip.

See the L.A. Phil at the Walt Disney Concert Hall
Whether you’re seeking a world-class musical performance or simply interested in laying eyes upon a world-famous piece of architecture, the Walt Disney Concert Hall has you covered. One look at the metallic, shape-shifting work of art and you’ll want to thank the architect (Frank Gehry, not Seth Rollins).

Explore the Sky at the Griffith Observatory
The STAPLES Center may be home to WWE Superstars on Aug. 17, but one place that’s always home tosuper stars is the incredible Griffith Observatory. Featuring a planetarium and public telescopes, the observatory is a “must” for anyone looking for an educational and fun experience. But watch out, you never know when you might spot Max Moon high up in the sky.

Visit an Outdoor Film Location
Ever want to check out Doc Brown’s home from “Back to the Future,” or the dazzling rock formations seen in “Star Trek,” “Blazing Saddles” and countless other movies?  Those are just a couple of the many outdoor film locations you can visit while in the area. Might noted Batman fanatic Jerry “The King” Lawler stop by the Bronson Canyon Cave, the setting of “The Batcave” from the ’60s TV series?
