SmackDown Five-Point Preview: April 23, 2015
The Russian Tank collides with The Human Wrecking Ball
This Sunday at Extreme Rules, Rusev will challenge United States Champion John Cena in a Russian Chain Match. Poised for the carnage to come, The Russian Tank gave The Champ a taste of just how brutal the title encounter will be on Raw when he unleashed the devastating backstage chain assault.
With so much riding on the contest, however, is the highly confident Hero of the Russian Federation making a strategic mistake by choosing to battle Ryback Thursday night at 8/7 C on SmackDown? Surely The Big Guy is more than capable of causing a one-man international incident. Plus, it will be interesting to see whether Cena will launch a counter assault, smack dap in the middle of the action.
RKOs of the Future?
Despite the stipulation banning the RKO from his WWE World Heavyweight Championship Steel Cage Match against Randy Orton at Extreme Rules, that didn’t stop the “Future of WWE” Seth Rollins from feeling the sting of The Viper’s infamous finishing maneuver at the height of an all-out RKO rampage Monday.
Will WWE’s Apex Predator return for more on SmackDown? Will the crafty Rollins have a trick of his own sleeve? Plus, how will Kane factor into the mix now that WWE COO Triple H has named him the “Gatekeeper” of Sunday’s Steel Cage showdown? Will Director of Operations have more say (or do) to his The Authority cohort?
SmackDown soaring into furious
Thursday’s SmackDown will also include a major tag team showdown that could have Extreme implications, as Dolph Ziggler & Neville go head-to-head with Sheamus & Bad News Barrett.
The outcome of this explosive encounter could affect two different matches this Sunday. First, The Showoff will take on The Celtic Warrior in a “Kiss Me Arse” Match. In addition, Bad News Barrett will challenge Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan. Who will walk into WWE’s most brutal pay-per-view with hardcore momentum? Will the tough team of Sheamus & Barrett ground “The Man That Gravity Forgot”? Or will the high-flying Neville help Ziggler steal the show?
An Extremely New Day?
Extreme Rules Kickoff will feature a WWE Tag Team Title Match, pitting titleholders Cesaro & Tyson Kidd against their No. 1 contenders backed by the power of positivity, The New Day’s Big E & Kofi Kingston.
In preparation for that high-octane encounter, The Swiss Superman will take on The Wildcat one-on-one Thursday night. But will the WWE Universe continue to play a part in the distraction of Kingston and his friends? And who will earn their team momentum for Extreme Rules Kickoff with the added kick of a SmackDown victory?
Is SmackDown Tough Enough?
Monday on Raw, WWE COO Triple H made a major announcement concerning the return of WWE Tough Enough, declaring that members of the WWE Universe could now submit themselves as possible candidates at WWEToughEnough.com.
Considering the magnitude The Game’s mega announcement, it will be interesting to see if SmackDown will feature any sort of follow-up on the ground-breaking show?
