SmackDown Five-Point Preview: Sept. 19, 2014
Time to “Reign” in Rusev?
If you tuned into this week’s Raw, you truly got a taste of the volatile things to come this Sunday at Night of Champions. J ohn Cena engaged WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar in an out-of-control brawl, Mark Henry rallied America while railing Rusev’s attempt to drop the iron curtain, and Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins went one-on-one for the first time on WWE’s flagship show.
Night of Champions: Brock vs. Cena | Reigns vs. Rollins | Henry vs. Rusev
Now in SmackDown’s main event, rather than sitting back after their Monday night matchups and preparing for Sunday, Reigns and Rusev will face off against each other tonight at 8/7 CT. Can the Hero of Russian Federation Putin-ize the most ruthless Spear in today’s squared circle?
Don’t go chasing butterflies
Speaking of Night of Champions, one of the most interesting clashes at Sunday’s pay-per-view has to be the Triple Threat Match, pitting Divas Champion Paige against former titleholders AJ Lee & Nikki Bella. It’s a match that takes place amid an extremely tumultuous Divas division from ferocious “frenemies” to battling Bellas to just plain “Total Divas.”
On Monday, Paige and Nikki managed to team up long enough to overcome their pay-per-view opponent and sister Brie. But as Paige and Nikki now return to adversarial status on SmackDown, look for both AJ and Brie to make their presence felt in this one.
Beware the SmackDown stunt show
If that weren’t enough, SmackDown will also host a true prelude to two Night of Champions title clashes at once, as United States Champion Sheamus & Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler battle Cesaro & The Miz.
Perhaps two weeks ago, one might have given the advantage in this match to the latter team, as the “Moneymaker” has consistently brought his stunt double, “Damien “Mizdow,” in to tip the scales. But last Friday on SmackDown, The Showoff pulled a stunt of his own, casting “R-Ziggler” into the production. This makes tonight’s blockbuster anybody’s showdown.
Can The Wyatt Family counter their largest problem?
On Monday night, Big Show seemed to have Bray Wyatt on the ropes, before Luke Harper and Eric Rowan chimed in, receiving a double chokeslam for their efforts.
The World’s Largest Athlete is hardly done demonstrating his gigantic contempt for The Wyatt Family, however. And on SmackDown, he will bring Los Matadores along with him for a Six-Man Tag Team Match against The New Face of Fear. With the giant’s pal Mark Henry no doubt preoccupied with Rusev, the size advantage oddly seems to fall with his creepy foes. On the other hand, the combination of Los Matadores’ speed, Big Show’s power and El Torito … well, El Torito–ness, size may not truly be everything.
Can you Bo-lieve that Dallas wants more of Swagger?
The Real American might have overcome his inspirational foe on Raw. But, it seems you can’t keep a good Bo down, as Dallas will take on Swagger tonight! We Bo-lieve in “We the People!”
