SmackDown Five-Point Preview: July 18, 2014
Can Y2J save himself from The Wyatt Family?
After a major 3-on-1 assault ended with Y2J feeling the full force of Bray Wyatt's Sister Abagail on Raw, Chris Jericho will journey to SmackDown tonight to compete in one-on-one action against Wyatt’s disciple, Luke Harper.
The “New Face of Fear” has definitely had an impact on the first Undisputed WWE Champion in recent weeks and no doubt smells blood in the water on the final show before their WWE Battleground clash. Can Jericho survive both his dangerous opponent and The Wyatt Family lurking at ringside tonight?
Can Dean Ambrose continue his revolt against The Authority?
Four days after suffering a brutal attack at the hands of Randy Orton, Kane and his WWE Battleground opponent, Seth Rollins, on Raw — an attack that that ultimately sent his to a local medical facility — Dean Ambrose is scheduled to kick off SmackDown tonight!
Could The Lunatic Fringe possibly be in any condition to even attempt retribution against his assailants? Or, will he have to continue looking over his shoulder for any further ambushes heading into Sunday’s pay-per-view showdown? Find out tonight at 8/7 CT on SyFy!
Frenemies or foes?
The newfound “respect” between WWE Battleground opponents Divas Champion AJ Lee and Paige will be put to the test tonight as they team up to take on Layla & Summer Rae.
The dynamic between Paige and AJ the past several weeks has been puzzling, to say the least. Since AJ stunned Paige to reclaim the Divas Title the very same night she returned on Raw, the British beauty has been surprisingly kind to the two-time champion, even going as far to say on Monday that she and AJ are “frenemies.” Can the two keep Sunday off their minds long enough to reign triumphant tonight? Find out on SmackDown!
Who in the Battleground Battle Royal can make a bold statement?
With WWE Battleground’s Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal just two days away, every single competitor involved in the match is aiming to make a statement heading into Sunday.
The Mexican Aristocrat, Alberto Del Rio, and Kofi Kingston will square off in singles competition, while United States Champion Sheamus will team with Dolph Ziggler to take on the pairing of The Miz & Fandango. All six men will have their sights set on gaining invaluable momentum as they attempt to obtain the prestigious Intercontinental Title on Sunday. Tune in to SmackDown to see who picks up steam, tonight at 8/7 CT on SyFy!
What’s next for Nikki?
Stephanie McMahon has made Nikki Bella’s life miserable in the weeks since her sister, Brie Bella, both quit WWE and then promptly slapped her across the face at WWE Payback.
Nikki has been made public enemy No. 1 for the rest of the Diva’s locker room and the victim of lopsided scenarios, such as being forced to wrestle with one arm tied behind her back and being pitted in a handicap match this past Monday on Raw. What does Stephanie have in store for the lone twin tonight, and how much longer can the “Total Divas” star last? Don’t miss SmackDown on SyFy tonight to find out!
